Interesting. I would find this annoying because its so different from what I'm used to, but the potential it has for people with disabilities is huge.

I think that in the short-term there will definitely be a shock to the system and there may be less lucrative and easy jobs, but long-term software is going nowhere and the fundamental value proposition of software engineers hasn't changed.

The only thing that changed is that due to increasing rates companies are tightening their CapEx and focusing on profit over growth.

The obvious issue is that giving employees $25-$50 in cash (which is what most of those things cost per person) is too little and can be considered insulting.

Imo it doesn't have a future as a means of payment because it's lack of privacy leads to a lack of fungibility (which is essential for a currency).

Tether failing (which seems inevitable at this point) will cause the entire crypto ecosystem to implode.

Doesn't seem like a sufficient benefit when you consider the downside -- a device listening to your conversations and selling that data to ad agencies.

Great post mortem, I love reading these. Its pretty neat that the tech industry is relatively transparent about these situations -- we all benefit from learning about them.

I know "it's literally 1984" [1] is a meme but c'mon... This is ridiculous even for Google. The systematic deconstruction and sanitation of language so that it conforms to a particular group's ideological leanings is unacceptable, especially in the hand's of a mega corporation.

Clearly the team has a lot of experience in fintech but I was wondering what the major regulatory hoops someone would have to jump through to build something like this -- especially if someone wanted to make a similar product in Canada/LatAm/Europe/etc. Any insights?
