The best solution to a societal gambling problem is genuine economic growth. Debt fueled "stimulus" mostly finds its way into the hands of the well-connected. Inflation hurts the poor the most, increasing the severity of an already desperate situation. Real economic growth, on the other hand, gives opportunity and hope to the lowest in society (who are more likely to be gambling what they can't afford).

Blame inflation.

If money maintained stable value over the long term, companies could honestly make promises about "lifetime" pricing. These promises were probably made during the "low 2%" inflation of the past, but basic economic understanding would point out that such a plan is doomed.

Better yet, in a deflationary monetary regime, a constant price would net the companies more profit over time. Users would probably clamor for lowered prices on these plans, and companies could advertise "Lifetime pricing plans are now cheaper! You get more for less!"

Neural networks often have trigonometric functions internally, so it would be massively more computation than necessary.

If you have a few spare CPU cycles, a hybrid approximation could start with a sparse lookup table of values as the initial guess for a few rounds of a numerical approximation technique. Or you just store the first few coefficients of a polynomial approximation (as in the OP's work).

It's basically using the HTTP 402: Payment Required status code and serving up a Lightning Network payment invoice.

Open source is a purely voluntary system. So it's not socialist, which requires state coercion to force people to "share."

This is a broader sentiment that can be applied to just about any open source ecosystem. Sometimes the technical debt and legacy install base of an existing project is too great to overcome. Sometimes people want to build a library that duplicates existing work just to see if they can. Sometimes personalities involved just don't mesh.
