You could start consulting / freelancing - use that to earn more for less hours (making an assumption thats true for you). Use the extra time experiment with finding a product business that you want to commit to.

Um, no. Firstly, not everything is about rational economics. No sane and functioning democracy is going to allow 500k people to die if it can stop it.

The strategy of UK seems valid as long as you protect the more vulnerable, which they don't do.

The UK and devolved governments signaled on Thursday that the plan is for the vulnerable to be self-isolating for a long period; and based on the briefings to UK jornos on twitter - it'll be 16 weeks of self isolation for over 70s and those with underlying health conditions (they've not said what conditions yet) - I've seen it referred to as 'cocooning' by some.

I think the UK was doing a really good job, and has been doing a good job with this - I do think they've really misspoken when they've talked about herd immunity and have been trying to walk the term back.

You've got to bare in mind, that they aren't doing the politically easy things here. It would be easy to close the schools. Based on people I've spoken to, its going to happen soon - but I suspect they want this to happen after the over 70s and the vulnerables are into self-isolationg, and not shouldering childcare responsibilities. None of this is easy, we can't magic this virus away.

If you're targeting someone you think has got a specific pain that you can credibly help with - a well crafted, unique and relevant pitch, with appropriately timed followups does work for a significant amount of people.

For the UK, I’d really recommend Freeagent. Not sure how rest of world coverage is, but Freeagent will cover most things you need to do (invoicing, taxes etc)

Sure maybe. I guess my takeaway, is that a growing percentage of the workforce are locked into platforms for income - and how they are treated by those platforms can have a massive personal financial impact.

Back in my freelancing days, I made a conscious effort to own the whole conversation - not to use a platform - but to do my own marketing.

As an aside, I've found it interesting to watch youtube videos made by Uber, Ubereats, Deliveroo delivery people - by scooter chargers and how they all discuss how to make more money - or to complain about changes in policies having a financial impact on them.

This worked for me - sure it took three years until I met the right person; but you need to put the hours into meeting people.

Having recently raised a seed in the UK; there is simply no reason to accept any sort of prefs for a seed round. There is plenty of SEIS/EIS money about - and part of those tax relief schemes is the investors need to take ords or they lose the tax-relief.

Back in the 2000s - it was AI & CS (or SE) Joint Honours.

In 1st and 2nd year, you would do the same Maths and CS course as CS/SE; you didn't get an elective it was a separate AI course, which covered the basics.

In 3rd/4th year (honours years as they're called here) - IIRC you'd have to take 8 courses in 3rd (plus an individual project and a team project) and 6 in 4th and your dissertation. Depending on the degree specialisation; you had to take some mandatory courses (CS only had to do Compiling Techniques and Algorithms, AI/CS didn't have to do CT - but they had to do Algorithms and Computability and Intractability). So, the two departments were very closely aligned and then were brought together into a new department/school within the Science and Engineering faculty.

They also offer a single AI honours degree now, but the structure seems very similar to what I experienced, with perhaps a bit more freedom in 3rd and 4th year.

Interestingly, while the majority of students were AI/CS or AI/SE - they also had joint honour programmes outside the faculty - so there were a few students who were AI and Psychology as well as AI and Linguistics. I don't believe they offer this combination anymore.

Personally, I would worry that you're finding it difficult to give your CEO/co-founder credit. I don't know you, so it is not for me to judge the reasons - but I think you should try and understand why you find it hard, and if that is a problem with you, a problem with the CEO or something else.

No, I don't think it can - you are being completely unrealistic about equity. The time for negotiating equity is before you incorporate or before you take funding; not 9 months down the line.

Frankly, if you pursue this equity issue - it is very unlikely to end well - you are likely going to destroy value in your business based on what? Some online calculator, put out as lead-gen?

I think you are confusing two issues - equity and leadership. Leadership is a perfectly reasonable conversation to be having; yesterdays CEO might not be the correct CEO today. This is probably 9 months too late, but maybe something like 'Founders Dilemmas' could help you.

QA is about how you work to ensure you build a quality product QC is about the tests you do to ensure a quality product has been built.

Yes, I think people would pay and I think you're not charging enough. Think about what an SE would charge an entrepreneur to build a product.

Promises to get you at least 100 people to sign up to your pre-launch list within 4 weeks or else all the work done is yours for free. These are targeted people that opted in, showing interest in your idea which you can then later work with to launch your product to, or talk to in order to improve what you're working on.

What about a pipeline of leads and an outbound marketing campaign instead; and then the execution of that campaign once the product is built would be another way to do it - I think some SE folks would love to build a product but completely outsource the marketing of it until they have some traction. Thats the problem you're solving.

I help to run a Scout group in the UK. All adult volunteers receive anti-bullying and child safeguarding training. In my experience - bullying is not tolerated in 'these times'.

React expects you to do your development on some flavor of Unix, and really doesn't have a sane plan for Windows, so you lose VS.NET and its huge productivity gains.

I've done both React projects with Python and C# apis. React is perfectly usable in VS.NET - are you aware of the Task Runner Explorer - https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/webdev/2016/01/06/task-runn... - hooks whatever you want into the build cycle, watches etc - once I discovered that, everything just clicked into place.

Sometimes, consultants get tired of consulting and want to build products instead.
