It's crazy he could put his son through training for years, yet cannot bother to read the book over a weekend?!

Anything I write/say are my own views and not the views of my employer or on behalf of my employer in any way, shape or form.
I agree, but people would of started coming out of the woodwork and giving me even more exceptions to the rule and how it's unrealistic, so I did the startup lower bound.
Very true on the having kids part. But you typically have 7 years of your life before you reach 30.
Probably contributes to the logan's run effect you see in SV tech companies ;)
What I've seen from colleagues with kids is the spouse also works some sort of 6 figure job and they either commute a lot or bought a house before it got extra crazy. Like one who bought a $600-700k TIC around the Haight ~4 years ago. Or they sacrifice their living standard somehow. The current family set you see today bought when it was more affordable.
Also apple. They pay less initially but start matching after a few years.
80k* %50 = 40k vs. 160k * %35 = 56k
Bay area in a nutshell. You can have higher savings rates too, I do around %40 and I could save even more. Working at a startup does make it harder, usually it's better to work at FANG. You also learn a lot and realize the difference between 'facebook does this dev practice because it's huge so it has to vs. it's the better practice'
So what is up and coming compared to ML?
China's is also hurting people with their behavior towards foreign companies in China in similar ways. Not to mention all the abuse china afflicts on it's own people with their power politics.
When someone is abusing you don't roll over, you create boundaries and walk away if they are violated.
And what is good about this practice is china has the power to stop this by treating everyone equally. Your not forcing things on china and you say you will stop when they stop.
You have to take a week off or spend 4-5 weekend days in training, making driving on Uber a lot less attractive as a part time extra while your already employed.
I've found that google maps performs worse in firefox and I get random %100 cpu spikes from websites in firefox that I didn't get in chrome. I'm on a mac using firefox 55.
Canada has training requirements for other low income jobs, and the kids take them even if your just going to work part time.
For example, you usually need to take a 1 day foodsafe course to work somewhere like mcdonalds: http://www.foodsafe.ca/courses.html
It's part of an overall trend. For example the gatekeeper security settings ux has slowly been removing options to run unsigned binaries bit by bit.
In 10.12 there is no obvious way on how to run unsigned binaries now. When you double click on an app multiple times, it refuses to run. If you go to security settings you cannot run the unsigned binary from there. You have to right click on the app and press open to get the old dialog that would allow you to run an unsigned binary like it's some sort of easter egg. In older versions you didn't have these restrictions.
Unique tit-for-tat regulations of Chinese companies of what is shown in practice?
"Our companies don't have freedoms X,Y,Z vs Chinese corps in china, so Chinese corps and investors will get the same special treatment in our country too".
It's also useful for cheaper & faster cross border remittances for the common person. For the common person paypal's %3+ currency exchange fees is more expensive than the equivalent %0.5-%1 in fees you get from a 2 bitcoin exchanges. And it's far faster since everything moves at the speed of local deposits & withdraws.
Most ad blocking is about intercepting specific urls, which can work at a layer below javascript.
They can also do server side ads and make the url indistinguishable from another image asset. They haven't, so it isn't 'dire' enough yet.
I could coach you if you want, I'm also in SF. I do a lot of those interviews from the other side. You can get my contact info in my user info page.
I meant it in the more casual sense, of low supply and constant / high demand.
Wages don't grow because there isn't a shortage condition for labor. If there was a shortage, the price of labor (wages) would increase.
From what I've read, it became fed policy to make sure this labor shortage condition doesn't happen around the 1980s as a response to the stagflation of the 1970s. It was believed that one of the causes of the inflation was wage growth.
From what I understand, wages tend to go up when the red line is below the blue line in this graph, and you'll notice the red line is under the blue line a lot more before 1980 vs after. You'll also notice interest rate spikes start around the point where the red line meets the blue line, and spikes of unemployment happen soon after.

Don't do it, the compile & indexing times alone as your code scales up get pretty bad. The debugger also just crashes when your codebase gets big and becomes uselessly slow when it doesn't. Backends have far more code than a typical client app, so if your 'successful' you'll run into it quickly enough. Swift needs more maturity as a language before using swift in a backend is a good idea.
I feel like dating is a good social experience to get started on in high school although. You learn a lot of social skills and things that you wouldn't learn anywhere else.
Also driving is a good skill to learn while still living at the house, it's far more accessible when you don't have to pay for your own car. It's far more expensive to learn when you are in college.
When you want to replace all the nails in your house with screws, so you can throw away the hammer ;)
TBH I don't think conscious micro-payments would work well. Something like spotify where you pay a flat fee for 'all you can eat' and proceeds are distributed via what you consume would be more practical. Medium is going towards that, but they still require you to press a like button to pay someone.
Most people will choose free with ads, but a significant amount will chose premium if it is compelling enough and that can represent a lot of money.
I think your 10s transaction is about equivalent to an unconfirmed bitcoin transaction or credit card authorization. How often is the actual bank-to-bank transfer?
The fact that there is an arbitrary money amount shows it's more of a fraud cutoff than a real limit.
Tencent is a pretty bad place to work at, how they constantly discarded their work projects, have typical chinese work hours where people sleep under their desk despite being huge co and said other friends who worked there had a bad time. They did like their immediate co-workers although.
While friends and coworkers who work(ed) at facebook have had a much better time, with far more perks, interesting projects work not thrown away and a much better work life balance.
Humans accumulate an ever growing collection of personal photos and videos as they get older. Eventually it will become like gmail, where you never delete them.
So instead of the record firm chosen top 50 and the nostalgia 200 it gives the long tail radio play payments too.
Just because apple did it better, doesn't mean they did it first or enabled it. Android has had face unlock for years and the S8 added 'iris unlock' also. They all have problems, since flat images defeat them compared to this more advanced version, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't be improved later.
The tech is out of bag and apple not doing it would just delay it by a few years. Managing a world where microphones and worse are everywhere and are being used by autocracy is how we should be acting going forward. Accepting that this is the world and dealing with the changes should be the focus, not trying to prevent tech that will be created whether or not some people like it.
edit: I do agree with your tweet about how it changes social norms although.
They do. Echo, Amazon & Computer :p
Those are not early adopters.
Don't worry, Tencent is just as much souless and bigcorp than facebook. I would say even more comparing what my friends have said about working at tencent vs facebook.
