Still have huge influence as demonstrated by them stepping in to lead parts of the AI push. Ezra Klein actually has an interesting perspective that the owner class of Silicon Valley has moved right a lot more and the workers are still the same politically causing companies to behave differently. My experience in Tech largely tracks. I would say the middle management and manager class are largely good people and try to navigate the world as best they can although they will choose to not rock the boat whenever possible. The tolerance for activism has just evaporated so we don't hear as much about it anymore.

The issue is that their corporate culture does not support it. Arduino will be too small to matter. This is the same issue as with Coral, the Google TPU. They are not refreshed as they are too small. They are too small cause they are not updated or supported widely.

People need mainline kernel support and regular refreshes to reliably build projects based on it. This will require some level of building their BSPs in open and providing APIs for people to take advantage of the QCOM specific features. A QCOM that won't talk to anyone without an NDA cannot adapt to this.

This is a recipe for disaster. Arduino is great for education/tinkering. Qualcomm won't sell you anything even if you are ready to commit to buying 1000s. I tried to source some Qualcomm chips for a startup @ 10k qty and was told there would be no information or support. Qualcomm can have a much bigger market if they simply open up some product lines for distribution like MediaTek do.

China has a way more vibrant, innovative hardware industry simply because you can source everything made by Chinese firms.

PCB design is a complex process with many factors to consider, such as routing and placement for mechanical, EMI, and thermal performance. As a hobbyist, I was initially drawn to the library and auto router features of PCB design software. However, as I gained experience, I came to realize that it is often better to do things manually. This allows for more control and ensures that there are no unwanted changes due to automation. Additionally, manual design is often more efficient in the long run, as it can prevent the need for recomputation.

In my experience, the paradigm of programmatically generating PCBs is not always practical. Even as a hobbyist, I eventually switched to manual design after experiencing issues with automated tooling. If you are serious about PCB design, you need to do things manually. There are other teams depending on the information and it needs to be guaranteed to be correct.

My man, I hope you're not American because the world has a laundry list of complaints against America. People care about different things to different degrees. You compromise on who you think is the closest to your positions. In a country of 1.3B people, there is always divergence of opinion and in fact nearly no-one would have even thought about immigration as a concern when voting.

There is a difference between the personal things you can influence and being the 1/13000000th voice of the people.

Its two different products. Google pay especially in India is a mobile wallet with coupons and rewards. Ironically, the card payment app is now called Google Wallet.

I definitely work longer but the intensity is much lower. Its a voluntary choice to work less intensely so I can handle childcare or lunch or take a nap. The total time spent is probably still lower if you include the commute during WFO.

I've always felt Apple should let power users run MacOS on the iPad, it takes care of all the things the article speaks of.

They can bury it by using iTunes or something to flash the image and 99.99% of people who don't need it will use it only as a MID device.

I mean it makes sense to me. I chose to work in Ireland in tech rather than America. Yes I took a 20% paycut after adjusting for COL but as an Indian, it's a much nicer country. There is a clear, well defined process. You get a permanent residency after 2 years and can apply for naturalisation after 5. The government is not actively hostile to immigrants, no stste violence, negligible prejudice and a very friendly people.

A lot of my friends who did their masters in the US are trying to move out as well due to the visa process. You can't live forever on a H1B. Canada seems to be the country of choice for those moving out. Money can only go so far, you need peace of mind. You can't build your life on a temporary foundation.

Also one other recent phenomenon is that you can make boatload of money staying in India and working for a startup. So the incentive to go to the US is lesser atleast for the cream of the talent from the top universities.

I don't think you even need a MacBook Air. I've always used Linux for development. If you're not tied to MacOS, get a Thinkpad with Ryzen + Radeon. It will run better on Linux. If you want the MacOS experience, get a Air.

Irrespective of what you get, you cannot do serious compute on a laptop. Because actually using it at full power kills your battery.

In my experience, most people who ask you to teach them don't want to learn as much as move on from this. It is frustrating, I no longer teach people. I take it seriously and it takes a lot of effort for me to teach well.

I went with Outlook 365. I've been using it for the last 2 years at my office and really like the rules options. It's been really pleasant and the Office web compatibility is nice.
