I've worked as a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) for over 12 years across startups, midsize, and FAANG companies with a focus on automating tests and processes which are often repetitively mundane or large time sinks. This ranges from writing said automated tests for web and mobile devices to the frameworks that run them. I also have experience in managing teams of people that take care of these tasks.

I enjoy the time saving nature of automation and have a genuine interest in maintaining a high degree of product quality. While my work has been SDET related up until now, I am open to developer roles as well since there is a high degree of overlap.

I've used parsyncfp2 which I think is just another implementation of the same thing and I've definitely seen 2x-3x throughput improvement when transferring over large distances.

As you mentioned it definitely depends on how the ISP handles traffic.

I have yet to try but I've heard good things about hpn-ssh as well.

When I was dogfooding their Horizon/avatar products I would often provide this kind of feedback on surveys. I no longer work there anymore.

On a serious note testing VR stuff was only a minor side thing I occasionally did and unrelated to my main scope.

I suspect it's for the same reason not everyone runs adblockers on their browser. Either not knowing about the alternative or laziness.

I think EVs will head in the complete opposite direction in that sales will slow down and they will continue to be a minority. Ford just killed off the F150 lightning and EVs (but also new cars) are still expensive purchases in a time with a lot of economic uncertainty. While Chinese companies are making affordable options all the markets seem to love putting tariffs on them in order to keep their homegrown automakers alive.

Yeah I did clicker training for her to learn fetch and she know how to. She just seems to have zero association between the "fetch" word and action.

I think we have the same cat. I also did the clicker training for paw/fist tricks and sitting pretty quick. I took a pause with the stick pointing because she traumatized herself with a stick toy and is quite avoidant to sticks. Sprint toys are her favorite and she'll fetch those or bring them to me to throw when she wants treats.

I'm impressed by the degree of selective catS possess. They can responds to like 5 different names if in the mood while other times won't event flinch even after repeating 20 times.

While my cat doesn't seek my approval, she is definitely highly food motivated to the point where she was faking wanting to go outside and thus put a harness on (which she does not enjoy) just for the treats she would get.

I would love to believe this but given my experience with my cat even single words are tough for them. For example my cat knows how to fetch her favorite toy but doesn't respond to the word "fetch" at all even with positive reinforcement (treats). The word "fetch" just doesn't mean anything for her even though I've paired it with the action of her fetch many times we play.

Maybe they'll gamify it with credits and make you watch ads for in order to gain them and thus use the service for free.

They disable so many features when you remove "Smart features" i.e. Grammar, Spelling, Autocorrect, Smart Compose/Reply (those templated suggested replies), Nudges, Package tracking, Desktop notifications. Google really wants to punish you for doing that.

Open/Close sensors + lights (and optionally luminance sensor) is what I find to be useful. When I open my home door the light turns on automatically if it's dark enough.

It's interesting because this is exactly right in that this chipset can't handle these high resolutions that well. The Play For Dream VR headset team went into this a bit and they're using similar hardware.

I think at their scale it would be very difficult to provide a consistent and flavorful coffee. For better or worse they gained a large market based on dark roast coffee dessert drinks and moving to artisan coffee might just not be that profitable.

I also thought about this but wanted to look into an ESP32 CAM to get vision working. For better or worse I didn't pursue the idea as I thought in the end repurposing a cell phone would be better overall.

I do wonder if the cellphone/app argument is why we didn't see that many hardware LLM API wrappers up until now. The rabbit R1 was basically just that.

I've seen more products in this space recently such as Ropet[1], LOOI[2], and others but for now it's going to be costly for companies to sell such a product at a fixed cost as I think a subscription model would be a hard sell [3] for consumers.

How did this work out in practice and across teams? My experience at Meta within my team was that it would be almost impossible to determine what the company actually wanted from our team in a year. Goals kept changing and the existing incentive system works against this since other teams are trying to come up with their own solutions to things which may impact your team.

Does Netflix cull employees if they haven't reached a certain IC level? I know at Meta SWEs need to reach IC5 after a while or risk being culled.

This is what I think they were referencing. Launching things looks nice in review packets and few to none are going to look into the quality of the output. Submitting your own self review means that you can cherry pick statistics and how you present them. That's why that culture incentivizes launching half baked products and moving on to something else because it's smart and profitable (launch yet another half baked project) to distance yourself from the half baked project you started.

While I haven't tried it I think the environmental/conflict-free angle may be the only one they can target. The organic/vegan/vegetarian angle is already out since we do have chocolate meeting that criteria. The fact that their products page has most/all of the products combined with something else leads me to believe the taste isn't there yet which is why IMO they can't go the luxury route if they have an inferior substitute.

Can you elaborate? The android app, browser extension, and desktop app all keep in sync for me.

You can use it like this, it's just that it's integrated with Meta's companion app which also has AI capabilities. Personally, I found the AI capabilities kind of lackluster now but I'm sure more features will be added in the future. The most useful features I found were taking quick photos and video calls with friends and family while away on work trips. Music playback was also decent but it eats up the limited battery.

The AI stuff is already offloaded to Meta servers via your phone. I don't think there are any models AI that would be able to run natively on phones with acceptable performance. Even if it did, my experience with video calls and the glasses are that the battery only lasts about 45minutes so I'm guessing slightly better performance for always on AI depending on what features you use.

A bypass is not possible. I believe the raybans meta have an "always on" AI mode/session now.

To be honest, the biggest issue with the glasses is battery life and I don't see that changing any time soon. It doesn't matter what LLM processes your data if it can only do it for one hour per charge.

Romania has very similar ethnically homogenous population at 89.3% [1] and I can definitely say that this factor does not directly lead to a high trust society. I suspect there are quite a few other countries with similar makeups that don't result in outcomes similar to Finland/Japan.

At $300/400 for the 15/21 respectively they are most definitely breaking even or turning a good profit on this.
