This is true, however I think its safe to say that most of his work was from primary sources, he kept extensive journals during the period and was also lucky enough to talk to several generals of OKW and get access to their journals. Not to mention that he also gained access to the Nuremberg trial records and German records (very well documented) after the war. Well worth the read.

I did some on the side admin work for a Photographer once, a real big name. He was in the middle of making up exactly what this was, however he came up against the same issues everyone has. Firstly space costs money, Hardware costs alot too, not to mention bandwidth, this guy would easily do 100-200gb of photos in a couple shoots. all very high res shots (talking about for big company ads) his idea is to sell a server with a software suit that people can dump into a datacenter or at home and upload photos to it, personally I liked the idea but local storage and hardware failure + the ability to grow the storage was a real killer for his idea.. (not to mention that your playing with peoples businesses and lives if you lose those photos)

It is actually kind of sad, coming from Australia, Police are usually seen as a force of good. Granted we do not have as much corruption in this sense as America does but sadly these sorts of positions are built on power and violence (eg non compliance) I think the question you have is if the police stop protecting their own people when they are trying to do their jobs how will they attract new police? as a profession where you will have someone that will be in that sort of job for 10-20 years+ getting sacked does not really mean you will be able to get into another police force (quite the contrary) you will most likely end up in a very low end security position.

This is not really a justification of all the shit they do rather an attempt to explain the insanity.

When people start mentioning price for these sorts of things I get a little confused, volume licensing for a bunch of hyper-v servers running 20-30 windows guests is actually quite cheap (you only have to pay for each licensed host server) I also have seen mention of a per user cost for ad? not sure where you got that from... I think exchange goes for about 6 bucks a user or so.. the next office setup ill be looking at will be three beefy hyper-v servers and running most applications on windows core... windows is now getting to the point where the only time I need to do any work is for weekly windows updates.

I remember back when I was doing a network engineering course the guys could crack a windows password in minutes offline, simple matter of grabbing the database from the machine. I think once you have the machine offline unless you encrypt the data your pretty screwed regardless..

Considering you only really have to pay around the 60 dollar mark for the OS now, I dont think its much of a big deal, I use one of these at home as a mini fileserver/wiki it draws sweet FA makes little to no noise and has HDMI connector direct into my tv. I would happily deploy one for our company marketing team or small scale offices.

Your twisting my words now, people pay for headlines with advertising and what not, we are talking about music or perhaps even movies, these people produce and create these forms of entertainment expressly for money, not for your enjoyment or for your friends enjoyment, them make it and package it.

What is not right is to reward artists by telling them that their hard work is just information free to be handed out to everyone, seriously call it what you want, you are stealing from these people. If you really don’t like it, go and create your content and release it under creative commons and stop watching and listening to commercial movies/radio.

Here is the thing, someone has gone ahead and spent time and effort to create and sell something, someone then has gone on out of their way and attempted to steal it.

That being said with any form of piracy it is in effect stealing. If one were to go down to the local store and steal a product from the shelves and make a run for the doors, you will also be caught, brought up to the police, charged and taken before the courts.

Now is the methods being used by the record companies correct? probably not. But do they have a right to try and protect their profits from looters and moochers of the world? they sure do.

I think digital media is the way of the future, especially being able to access it from anywhere in the world with little or no effort.

I just think that piracy in this sense has been taken for granted for much to long and we should work towards naming it as it should be named and stop getting up and arms about it as much as we do and just pay for what we use instead of running off to the local torrent site and downloading the shit out of it.

I work for a hosting provider, there are actual rules for registrars preventing things like this happening, I dont know what happened to you in the past but its very unlikely to happen, Registrars essentially risk their business doing this, here is a copy of the rules for .com.au namespace..

The fact that they are relying on an external mail vendor, and had passwords in their emails is a very sad practice.

What a bit of drivel, as long as there are systems to be managed there will be sysadmins, I work at a hosting shop and you roughly need one sysadmin for every ten or so servers regardless of what they are, things just need to be taken care of.

Mail queues need to be monitored and cleared, kernels patched, customer issues need to be escalated. When you start getting into the size of a company with over 100 non-technical staff you will find you need at least one or two admins just to keep up with issues that come up.

I think we really need to look at this historically, the first sailors used smaller ships which were only able to follow the coast or travel short distances up rivers, further development in navigation and hull designs allowed them to cross the great depths even further. I think we are still in the Raft stage of space exploration, although it is a great idea, I think we need to work on those little steps.

Getting back to the moon and/or perhaps chasing asteroids seems much more practical at this time I don't think colonisation of mars will ever happen unless we gain the capacity to build bigger ships in orbit of earth, it just costs to much to get things up there. If we can solve the issue of getting basic materials and manpower into orbit and then set up supply lines that do not involve earth then we will be ready to start making caravels instead of rafts.

I have to disagree with the logfiles, I work for a really large domain hosting company so our logs are quite vast, dealing with spam issues can amount to a large amount of time being used just looking for the information you need.

we have greylog in place to help query these logs from our syslog server, it has helped us identify alot of different issues since we have put it in place, not to be rude to the poster but I dont think you have the experience with really big log files and how painful it can be (or how long it can take) when you have to grep through this information by hand, zcating an old compressed log file can take up to ten minutes before you even start seeing data let alone relevant data.

Apple tv has the entire season up for grabs for about 20 bucks or so.... do your research.
