Probably not necessarily on topic - but I really want to give a shout out to Mr. Fowler. It’s really hard to find anyone in contemporary and practical software engineering who has been as impactful as he has been. A lot of modern concepts that improve software development has a seminal article authored or made visible by him.

I think OPs goal was to evoke reaction to his post On HN and looks like he was pretty successful at that.
The only way to be successful with EVs is to have substantial scale and that scale needs 10’s of billions of dollars, which means public markets or huge private rounds which also means dilution. Many things that are probably unpalatable to Mr.Dyson.
I have been following Tesla closely for the last 5 years. The amount of FUD has been astounding considering no other car manufacturer has managed to launch a mass market electric car. Analysis after analysis say that competition is right around the corner or NIO is going to beat Tesla. Question is If these misleading articles/statements are ethical?
Double woosh
Sugar industry mirrors the approach that the oil industry has taken. Both should be addressed aggressively by introducing real education, researching and developing worthwhile alternatives. Both have unprecedented costs to humanity.
How much of this success is because of Elon?
Considering the privacy focus that Apple brings, Duck Duck Go could be an interesting play to reduce Google’s presence from the Apple ecosystem.
Have you heard of EDS? How about HP global? They were selling to enterprises and still became obsolete..
Doesn’t this call for an OSS vehicle platform that can be reviewed by thousands of contributors to avoid these type of issues?
I think storage should be decentralized with towns/cities working to store locally and forward as required.
Congratulations Alex & co for a great exit. I think the price is great considering that it is pretty much impossible to survive as an independent company in the infra space.
I want to become a bank robber now.

Wrote about this exactly several years ago, nothing has changed really
I doubt it's that simple. There are things you should just quit - things that mess with your mental stability. Then there are things that exercise the right muscles but is downright hard, the ones you should persist for the value you gain at the end of it. Being patient is a great virtue till it isn't.

Email marketing is such a thankless process, with really low conversion of any sorts and irritation the usual emotion associated with it. Having sent several cold campaigns and reported on (sorry) we just stopped it entirely. Unless you have a credible brand sending emails is like having a twitter handle.
Toronto is a great choice although doubt amazon will get the same incentives as an US city
I completely agree with this premise. Nowhere is it more obvious than in OSS companies. There is no open source business model that cannot be disrupted by the cloud bigs which also include Microsoft.
With the American election debacle and not being around during Nixon, I have realized the outsized role press has to play. Blogs, citizen journalism do not do it. You need dedicated sharp investigative journalism without fear Of retribution either from the owner or from the government. It actually becomes important if say Bezos plans to run for president and in fact becomes the president.
PG makes it all look so neat and tight, however he fails to mention the number of serendipitous instances that drive insights and new ideas.
Small data point but the uptake of aws lambda has been crazy in spite of the clear lock-in. Similarly S3 and several other proprietary cloud services. The cost of infra software is nominal compared to what it takes to manage it and maintain high uptime.
In the next few years, on prem will become the exception than the rule considering that heavily regulated industries are now moving to the cloud. The same way hardware providers like HP, DELL and EMC are struggling, IMHO the next wave will be infra software providers. Unless for very specific purposes, the ROI of running your own infra software is decreasing.
Edit: typo
Days are numbered for infra software detached from a cloud provider. Cloud Foundry and VMware folding (partnering with Google Cloud) is a good indicator that there is no clear path forward. So Kubernetes on prem or custom rolled on a cloud will not win the fight against GKE or ECS. Openstack,DC/OS, Openshift are all risky bets from a career standpoint.
It could also mean that other grocers will need to bring delivery in-house to compete or instacart will have to start white labeling delivery.
I feel this is the beginning of the end of instacart. Amazon is getting into same day delivery big time with this. Now they own the grocery warehouses to drive the end to end supply chain.
If tesla can get 500,000 cars out there, ICE cars are toast. Enough of legacy cars and makers.
The article states that there are higher deaths of despair which affects younger population disproportionately. This impacts productivity and GDP calculations.
Sure, also understand that the productive segment is also be affected in turn impacting future GDP calculations. It's a net loss in the long run..
Uber is playing both sides of the table which is ok if you are profitable overall. But not ok if you are losing money on both sides. Uber will go a full Groupon soon.
This is a lost opportunity for Apple as AppleTV could have been a cross platform integrator with the ability to manage all the diverse content portfolio. Jobs would have aimed for that.
