Assumption made here is people will report and provide review comments. if they (who want to do illigal stuff) select places to get one room and behave normally and decently in public, nobody will ever report anything. I am not saying it will be a widespread practice, but all it takes is one dead fish to dirt the pond.

And nobody answered the first part of my question. ie the factors that promted or inspired PG to make that remark when he visited them.

why am i getting down voted? I am just curious to know how they will handle this situation?

Can you help us understand why/how you sensed it. What are the factors which influenced this remarks. I am sure others will get benifitted too. More over I would also like to know how can/will they handle bad publicity like some one using airbnb for wrong illigal stuff like prostitution.

Few more thoughts on the same lane

Advantage for such a platform: 1) Atleast for restaurent business, this model makes sense as nobody goes to the same restaurent every day. Buy keeping him in a closed partner network, you are enhancing the chance to get him back again.

2) This will also encourage customers to go out and try new places

3) This will work out great for new business

4) some extra revenue for more established players.

Challenges : Identifying complementing business is going to be a big pain. Also the revenue sharing is going to be a pain too.

Other thoughts: We could manage all the coupons and deals online so no business will feel the extra pain. We could make the consumer scans the bill using a app and that could be used to get deals/coupons. Soo many ways we could implement it to make it painless.

Another thing is that, it will change the way we look at a business. Rather than one single entity, over a period of time, we will have a partner group of business we trust. So having a good partner will help your business and a wrong one can impact in a bad way too.

On a different note, I feel that, If we share our ideas around the product they are working or interested, you will get some response. Again my post and suggestion on Tutorspree got me some response from both the founders. Another Post on Visa issue got quite few upvotes and comments. May be that is the only way to get the attention of HN'ers

Interesting proposition of presenting ideas in an interesting mannaer. Now We are talking. But it is kind of Art. For few it will look picaso but for the others it will be a piece of junk.

Yes. Building something has a ton of benifits. But to build a lot of ideas (say 1 idea a week) will take ton of time too. What I want to do is to use the collective brain power of hn'ers to improve my thinking process in short time. I am currently working on one of the ideas myself and trying to learn from others at other ideas. And please note that I had shared a prototype in one of the post. But didn't get any response.

Yes. I love coding in html using my notepad++. But for quic visual feel excel rocks. If you really see html is more tabular than anything. Web layouts are tabular and for using excel we don't need to know any css or js or for that matter html too

Excel is such a versatile tool that you could use it for daily needs such as creating lists and note taking. Or u could use it for web prototyping, creating images, buttons, or logos. And if you know vba, you can create complete working prototypes with data stored in the sheets. Do you guys know any other such tool

What is better than HN itself. Post your idea here and check for feedback. This is what i have personally done. I keep track of my ideas in my blog and post them here on HN. If people read it and think it has some potential, they will respond back to it. And it could be your lucky day, and PG himself will give u some inputs (kind of like limited version of virtual office hrs). I do share my ideas with my friends too as some time they give the best of the advice.

it may highly possible (Given that they are YC) that TutorSpree has most of these features thought and discarded/postponed for various Reason. But it will be interesting to see the thought process put behind these decisions. I hope somebody from Tutorspree will respond back to this.

Really cool. And you have also shared the technology used in the site. May be you could blog about the development life cycle detailing some of the rationale for selecting a given tech. Kind of like making of Wispy. I am sure many of the us will get benefited out of that.

excellent Thought. Could I be the devils advocate for a second.

1) Most of the retail chains (I mean the Big/Medium one which are primary target for this kind of system), already has a price check system installed in their store. This can be issues in following way - Why should the store waste some space for new harware - What is stopping these price checking sytem vendors to simply upgrade their system with this feature as addional one. They already have a installed base and customer confiedence, they can kill the market if they see any traction.

So ideally you may want to create a single system which will replace this price checking system with addional features. or the reverse.

2) Most of the Small shop owners any way wont have space for a price checker/scanner. So this market is pretty limited.

3) There are few key advantages for online profile like amazon does. - people can browse at their liesure and no effort/little effort is required from their side to do passive browsing. while nobody will visit a shop juzz to do passive shopping of grocessories/pharmacy. - Passive browsing helps to build one part of the user profile. This is not possible in case of physical profiling. Also there is some effort required from user to scan any item. - For online browsing, you can use IP address/user login details to track a user and hence his profile which can help u display related products. But when u do this physical, unless there is some way user enter his details (either scanning his member card or entering some number), u cannot use his history during shopping time. This will limit ur data to current shopping iteration only.

4) Already most of the groceorry shops provides coupons/deal details currently during your billing time based on the items u have purchased. So this is not new.

5) Now if these business are ready to share the details (which i dont think they will do)and u are keeping the profile of each consumer/customer in a centralized form, u will have more details during the checkout time. (due to same reason that u wont know the user untill he provides his member card). And that can be more usefull to provide more deals based on - other shopping he has done recently. e,g he bought a tv from best buy and he is in sears, offer him deals on tv stand. - See if u can utilize some social cues. either use facebook or have ur own social features. so that u can tap his friends profile to suggest something.

I am not saying these are big issues, but something u need to think before u pursue these idea
