Do you write Web applications speaking to backends without javascript and using just HTML and CSS or static websites which are improved with animations requiring javascript?

It's like saying basketball is inefficient, when I pass the ball to a team mate I can loose it, better if I run the whole field on my own. Programming is mostly a team sport as well, involving backend and frontend engineers, qa, design, product owners.

I think everybody has got something to add. It is a bit of a social exercise where people share how they think, how they solve problems

I think it's a very interesting concept, comparable to brainstorming. Devs share lots of knowledge during sessions and learn from each other ways of solving issues. I thought about it more as a learning exercise.

The problem lies in what you actually want to create. For your simple html,css websites with gifs please don't use React with Typescript!

But if you are writing an application, something which is supposed to replace desktop software, and allow for storing data in a database, retrieve it quickly, manage some sort of complicated systems then I'm sorry Html + css is not good enough. Use the tools you need, don't pick react for landing pages.

Worth noting that the team used oxygen, which wasn't the case in some other unsuccessful recent tries. It is a great achievement for them but it was known that you can do it accompanied by the help of oxygen or a team using it.

As someone without children you don't understand that parents need to rest after couple years of constant taking care of children :) I was the smartest about raising kids when I didn't have them yet :)

I followed a similar pattern and created https://sayoname.com, an app for remotely located workers so they can record names and call each other directly from the browser. A tool so people can easily find how to say someone's name, sneak on what someone does in the company etc.

I almost got a big school hooked up to start paying subscription (it is an international school) but they decided on creating their own solution due to privacy concerns. Extremely disappointing and lowers morale straight away.

I have few hundred profiles but the growth is stale atm. I don't really have time to actively look for new users and would love a co-founder as what they say on y-combinator it is REALLY a lot easier if you have someone you can share thought and can both motivate each other. So my advice is add a step and get a co-founder.

I would not agree, gold is material, and wnehenver in the world you go with a piece of gold you can easily sell it, you don't need computer , electricity and in the case of Armageddon if you survive you will still be able to buy food using gold afterwards.

In my opinion this seems like a low valuation for what they do and the customers (Costco, Uber). If it would be based in San Francisco it would be several billions.

Hi HN, I've created sayoname.com, which allows everybody to create profiles and record first and last names. You can video chat with people and search for names and last names. It is free.

Why this idea? My name is Maciej and, after moving abroad, I've found that my name is hard to pronounce for others and might make them uncomfortable when starting a conversation with me. Hopefully, if you work in an international environment, you can make people's life easier by recording your name and sharing your profile in email footers or Linkedin.

There are around 300 recorded names—a hundred recorded by Chinese native speaker surnames, about 150 Polish and 50 Ukrainians. If your name is missing, record it, others might need it one day.
