Search works well. Yes, the auto-categorization needs some tweaking, but I don't see that as the key benefit. Automatic indexing of destination content - that's what's really useful about Zukmo. The comment on highlighting this benefit is quite relevant in this context!

Don't most people? I have 6 passwords I normally use- with one for untrusted sites, one for money related stuff, etc. Even though the damage is reduced if someone lays their hand on my 'untrusted site password', it is nevertheless disconcerting. Time to use Keepass or something similar, I guess.
I think mentioning the username and email ID is a lot more preferable - and safer. I'm not as concerned about my email getting hacked (in which case, I have bigger problems) than my password being up there in plain text. Most of us sign up for more things than we can remember individual passwords for; many of us probably use a set of few passwords across sites - with our own rules for what's used where. The fact that any person can assume a reasonable degree of password reuse and try my password on (say) Gmail, etc is very disturbing.

I didn't fully get your point earlier, but it's clearer now. You raise valid points. By the way, two points that may interest you: (1) I personally filter my facebook stream to weed out all the "spammy auto-updates" you've mentioned - so it feels a lot more 'human' to me. I get exactly what you mean (mafia wars is a pet peeve) (2) The whole thing about the Dunbar number-http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunbar%27s_number
Patrickk, some thoughts on your points:
a) Yes, it's not 'as cool' as before. But, thanks to the 'friends of friends' effect ypu've mentioned, it has achieved remarkable numbers while it 'was cool' - and at this time, that's all that matters.
b) I think businesses are starting to see value in facebook. Facebook Places (with the automatic creation of a facebook page too) will only catalyze this.
And...with a single destination site seeing 500mn+ users, we're in unchartered territory - history won't help us here.
Online population: http://www.internetworldstats.com/stats.htm (approx 2 billion)
An interesting link in the context of your point: http://www.aweber.com/blog/email-marketing/email-and-faceboo...
Note 1: check out the embedded video Note 2: take the rest of the content with a pinch of salt; this is an email marketing vendor's blog!
Absolutely! Fan pages are a good way to stay in touch with existing customers/fans. Often, companies also provide special offers, early bird previews & discount coupons to facebook fans. And yes, it is replacing newsletters in some ways. However, I think most firms 'play safe' and send their 'news' through everything - twitter, facebook & email. So, if you're following a brand on multiple channels, the clutter is only compounded!
Interestingly, for all these competitions, the iPad seems the undisputed motivator these days!
I'd suggest you skip the Google Adsense for now; you could always reconsider later. My first impression was "they want me to click on an ad" - that's their model. And yes, to echo angumagu, I'd recommend a modification to the thumbnail too. Good luck!
Putting it rather crudely: get your customers online through social media (eyes) and then get them through the door (feet)
Thanks. Yes, finding them will be a challenge - but we think that can be addressed, one step at a time. Our first tagline was "Eyeballs & Footfalls for your Local Business". And we thought, EyesAndFeet was 'earthy' and related to the promise. But, like you say, the name's not too big a deal.
Sorry, skipped the points (don't even know why I did that); will try and update later.
I've referenced that article in my post - and used the same dataset as they have. The (other) article is about all posts. I've focused exclusively on Ask HN - where the post's objective is not to educate/entertain/inform but to solicit feedback. The hypothesis is that an Ask HN post demats a higher level of involvement from the reader and hence may exhibit different trends.
Simply multiply the % numbers by 853 (total sample size)
I was asking around for feedback on that bar (just put it a few days ago). Thanks.
Yes, UTC it is. I should have mentioned it in the post (editing now)
Appreciate the inputs (this thread isn't closed; please feel free to add your comments).
Here's what we're now leaning towards. Any thoughts?
get Customers. from Social Media. for your Local Business.
Understand & leverage the power of Facebook, Twitter, and more
Thanks. Is there an easy way to check if something's been posted earlier - especially when the URLs are different?
Absolutely! I'll try to capture that thought in fewer words - and yes, sacrifice 'sounding intriguing' for 'clearly communicating'. In retrospect, I did a pretty stupid thing. Someone asked me if footfalls were common parlance in the US. I googled it up (dumbest thing to do) and (obviously) found a few references!
"EyesAndFeet..Gen Y" - some good thoughts there. Thanks for helping out.
Appreciate the inputs. I guess "Social foot traffic for your Local Business",while correct, doesn't quite pack a punch. Perhaps we'll just go with "Social traffic for your Local Business". Anyway, I'm relooking the headline too - so hopefully we'll change the copy to something much more clear.
Thank you for your inputs. Yes, it's becoming increasingly evident that the copy needs some reworking. Back to the drawing board on that!
Thank you for your feedback. Yes, I guess we need to be a little more direct about what we offer - and perhaps highlight the segments (restaurants etc) we're focusing on. We're also relying on the video to convey that message (the setting is a street with a restaurant, cafe, bar & spa) The headline isn't designed to work by itself - the objective is to gt your attention (if using social media is on your radar). But if the first thing that comes to mind is 'Groupon clone', we should relook. Thanks again.
Thanks! The fact that this is the first time you've heard the word conveys a lot. We're looking at amending the tagline at this time. Would you know if there's a one word equivalent to footfalls? I don;t think footsteps would do it.
Congratulations. I signed up for an account and played around a bit. I can certainly see myself using this pretty soon. As a couple of people mentioned, instruction creation is a pretty infrequent activity - so a pay per month pricing scheme may not work best. VerticalResponse.com comes to mind (not associated in any way; I don't even use them) - in a market where monthly fees are the norm, they have a pay as you go plan that's tied to distribution (numbers). On another minor point: maybe it's me, but the 'appliance' bit had me expecting a device; I was happy to see there was none.
couldn't agree more; especially at a time where education is getting increasingly 'pointless'to kids who sometimes think (often correctly) they can get a more educative experience online.
Absolutely. My wifi (pic in the article) was in one far corner of the house.
I can imagine - must be disappointing when you take the effort and nothing happens. Personally, I had a fantastic improvement in signal strength. In fact, strangely enough, the signal also improved in the room right below the one where the directional+wifi was.
