Backend-engineer with more than 20 years experience, particularly in Telecoms and billing/finance, but with exposure to a number of other industries, eg travel, education. Have worked as a team lead in my last few roles, both coding and leading team to deliver projects.

I enjoy tackling side-projects in my spare time - this keeps my saw sharp and occasionally I create something I like to use. Always happy to pick up new techniques, skills, and languages. Continuous learning is something I strongly believe in.

Have worked on a variety of types of projects: Monoliths, distributed systems utilizing microservices, and (unfortunately) distributed monoliths.

Recent projects include: * document store for capturing customer statements billing and archival purposes, using apache jackrabbit, java and kotlin * rust aws cli client for dev/testing purposes * Migrating test suite from junit4 to junit5, non-trivial due to inheritance hierarchies.

Available for freelance, contract and full-time roles.

abstract art that is arguably easier to paint than his earlier work.

Strong disagree. Expertise often looks easy. He had to understand the rules on a fundamental level before he could break them as he did, to express not just pictures but the underlying form and composition.

In my opinion it is harder to paint abstracts like Picasso did than it is to paint realistically.

I mean, christ, the desktop user experience is still pretty goddamned terrible

Going to have to disagree with you there. The linux desktop experience is now superior to the windows desktop experience.

That was Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer of Netflix in 2013, so they 'realized' at least a decade ago.

They've really pivoted amazingly from dvds to streaming other folks content to creating their own in the last 20ish years.

I can recommend "the partially examined life" which features the person from "philosophize this" (stephen west I think?), along with a few others, where they discuss specific texts. Lots of rewindable moments.

It's up to the government and the people to limit their scope, or not if they choose.

That sounds a lot like victim blaming, tbh, particularly given the influence corporations have on eg pollution.

Laws of UX 6 years ago

I think "UI>UX" is very clearly saying that user interface is more important than user experience.
