Depending on those vaunted “security researchers” to take point and find all vulnerabilities in all packages is also fairly naive. That process costs money and produces a fairly valuable result - why would they give it away for free? So this will inevitably evolve into targeting only the high-value most popular packages and the exploiters will retreat to the long tail of less-popular ones. Lower payoff? Sure, but beats zero payoff.

There’s no obvious way to switch to normal (aka “light”) mode. Dark mode is very difficult for some people (me included) to read.

If you must default to dark mode that’s your choice but I’d love to see a light mode toggle somewhere prominent.

It’s interesting that you mention Garmin - they’re a good example of pivoting from your original market (standalone gps units for cars) once you see a nimble competitor eating away at it (gps-enabled smartphones). Garmin would be dead if they had held fast on the standalone GPS market.

Dunno man, sometimes I blog stuff I want to remember (how to do task X or Y, some arcane ffmpeg incantation, recipes, etc) and when I need it, it’s easier to find it in my public blog which is accessible from anywhere, vs. it being a file buried in some computer I have to sit in front of, or somewhere in a shared drive I have to authenticate to, etc.

For some things there is value in them being publicly accessible even if nobody but me cares or uses them.

Use reader mode. If you’re this militant, I’m certain your device defaults to dark mode and reader mode will honor that.

Using reader mode is the same thing I have to do with the avalanche of sites now defaulting to unreadable-to-me dark mode.

Can flip this around: lots of websites now default to dark mode because reasons, and dark mode is very difficult for me to read (all blurry, also gives me a headache after a while).
