i'm informed and know next to nothing about two of the names. there are plenty of guys out there the poker world recognizes as better players.
"Jason Les, Dong Kim, Daniel McAulay and Jimmy Chou ..." are the pros? not exactly ivey.
you think the earth's climate 100 years out is remotely predictable?
my comment was to previous poster who used historical detonations as somehow predictive statistically. it isn't.
as to whether we should be concerned, where was this article five months ago? it's thinly veiled political commentary.
the historical occurrences of nuclear device detonation have nothing whatsoever to do with the chances they will be used going forward.
i find his paranoia political. we should be a lot more worried about india and pakistan having nuclear weapons than a president who uses twitter.
it's hard to maintain relevance as a figure of import when you're shut in some embassy. his outlandish claims are a requirement of his position (attention).
along these lines, note how many news stories etc are currently touting the power of stock indices and index investing. given a shiller pe of ~28, i'd say most are in for a very rude awakening (again and forever).
r/news comments i avoid like the plague. i have that sub blocked on my front page (along with r/politics and "popular" candidate subs including but not limited to the bern, hillary, and trump). life's too short for any of that shit.
Irish leader doesn’t regret calling Trump “racist and dangerous”
that's not news.
stuck? i'm amazed at how negatively most europeans view "work".
i have a daughter (almost 4 yo). what did i just read?
my wife buys organic milk, and it kills me. it doesn't matter how many studies of composition and pesticides etc i provide, the religion of organic rules.
"If you want to make absolutely sure that stimulus money ends up spent in the economy, as opposed to saved or transferred abroad etc"
i read this all time around here. money "saved" is usually invested, and that too stimulates an economy -- and probably more meaningfully long-term.
chicago has done all that. california has a unique asset that enables it to enact all kinds of offensive tax etc legislation: climate.
i trade financial futures and cash equity. i realize ibanks offer leveraged bets on all kinds of nonsense to provide a "service", but pretty much any strategy known to humanity can be achieved on an exchange with negligible counterparty risk
yeah, i really don't know what these guys are talking about. the business day to day has been massively revamped by automation. there are hft ops that are blasting millions and millions of orders a second and probably account for 70%+ of all trading volume.
would you like to earn -80 bps on some german schatz?
unlikely. i think it has more to do with competitive pressures in markets and the elimination of a lot of the less sophisticated participants (partly due to higher frequency trading).
it's insanely competitive due to low barriers of entry and availability of leverage / capital. the phd part is incidental in the same way an mba is to a lot of the banking world: it's a hoop that demonstrates rational competence (they were accepted to such and such great program), and it's a base to begin selecting for personnel.
overlay economic growth and contraction, and there's your answer.
hedge funds investors on average are large, "qualified", and sophisticated. the money's leaving because they've underperformed (they always do in big bull runs), not because endowments etc have gotten "more educated about personal finance".
you should see what small time real estate promoters out west charge for fees.
i've migrated back to r for various reasons, but wes really is a beast in the python finance world.
you've described a range and complex combination. the author of the piece stated -- almost word for word -- that degrees from top schools are not earned.
"I’m excited to see that what mattered way more than pedigree was the actions people took to better themselves."
so a degree from a top school is not earned (nor are admissions i guess), but rather conferred at birth? i beg to differ.
the commentary on the "disutility" masters degrees is even worse.
california has a lot of this. they endlessly lecture the rest of the country on environment and sustainability while driving their hybrids 4 hours a day.
we can all hope this is a fake "news item".
trust me when i tell you: you are partisan.
there are people crying in the bathrooms at every big firm on the planet.
