For some odd reason, I don't really see flashing lights or anything extraterrestrial. I don't know why.

And wiggling my toes or fingers doesn't seem to ever work for me, but my phone buzzing or someone touching me breaks me out almost instantly.

As for the calm, "astral projecting" thing, I used to do some things like that and really enjoyed it, until I ended up "seeing" some jackal-headed monstrosity battling shadow people and something that looked like smoke with diamond shaped blazing yellow eyes.

I'm narcoleptic. Sleep paralysis happens pretty often to me and it still causes me distress almost every time until I "boot up" enough to realize what is going on.

Hypnagogic hallucinations (at least that I remember) are quite a bit rarer and much more terrifying, since my brain pretty much dreams up the worst possible scenarios possible (burning building, demons, reapers, Sasquatch, being dead in a morgue drawer, and even evil leprechauns have made appearances).

It's not a burning coal plant that's the problem. A tsunami would spread the ash from the coal plant everywhere.

Heavy metals from the ash would be a lot more hazardous in the short term than the radiation unless you were standing on top of the reactor.

I would rather live next door to a nuclear plant in an earthquake and tsunami that to live next door to a coal plant during the same catastrophe.

The ash is more radioactive than most nuclear waste is and there's a whole lot more of it to contain.

The only circumstances where you will burn a significant portion of muscle before fat is if you are eating a high fat diet with less than 30 grams of carbohydrates or protein per day.

If you are fasting or in nutritional ketosis, your brain still needs about 120 grams of glucose (or as low as 20 grams after it adapts to producing and using ketones for fuel). If you aren't getting the glucose it needs or ingesting carbohydrates that can be broken down into glucose, your body will begin gluconeogenesis, a process that turns amino acids (from the breakdown of protein) into glucose. If you are still consuming dietary protein, it will break this down first, but if you are not, it will get these amino acids from your muscles and other "lean" tissues.

Basically, if you are consuming an adequate amount of protein, it's pretty hard to lose muscle mass without losing a significant amount of fat.

The dogs aren't purposefully trained to give false positives, that's just a side effect of how social dogs are. They want to please their handler and the handler gives them rewards.

Maybe they can skip the first segment of the Robocop story for me. I'm okay with losing the parts I don't need through a nice, clean, anesthetized surgical procedure instead of through violent crime.

Basically, you don't have to enter ketosis on the way to burning proteins for energy.

If you stop eating entirely, you will enter ketosis and also be breaking down some protein for energy as soon as your blood glucose and your liver glycogen is depleted (your brain still needs about 20 grams of glucose a day even in ketosis, so gluconeogenesis will occur turning protein into glucose). You probably won't even smell the ammonia at this rate, since it's pretty low.

After being in ketosis for a while (a few weeks) your body gets better at producing ketones on demand instead of just supplying them all the time and the acetone smell decreases substantially, but you still shouldn't be breaking down protein unless you are low body fat and not eating enough fat for the calories you need.

I never smell like ammonia unless I'm working out really hard and in ketosis.

If you aren't lazy, you can work hard enough to smell like ammonia no matter what you eat if you are pushing yourself really hard in an anaerobic exercise set.

Ketosis is an alternative method of using fats for energy in the absence of normal process using glucose. The presence of ketones on your breath makes a "fruity" smell that can range from minor to fairly unpleasant. It may make your mouth taste "metallic".

When your body is breaking down protein for energy, you will smell like ammonia, which is significantly different smelling than ketones like acetone.

It burns me to pay a subscription and still have to watch advertisements.

It burns me even more that the ads are so repetitive.

A few years back, I was standing in a puddle in a shed plugging in a golf cart when lightning hit a few feet away from me. It was like a bomb going off, vaporizing sheets of drywall, turning the wooden beams into splinters, and blowing a chunk out of the concrete.

In the room upstairs, it melted a mirror and fried all the electrical devices. A monitor close by got a really neat wavy pattern like it was exposed to a magnet.

All in all, that was a terrible afternoon at work.

I would draw the line a little further away than a drink for the ride home, or even taking one or two drinks home with me for the drive the next morning. It's in their best interests if you make it to and from work happily and safely. If a drink makes the commute easier, it's worth it.

As an example, I asked my employer if I could borrow my steel toed boots meant for site visits to use during some work outside to help a friend for a weekend. I told them if I damaged them I would gladly pay to replace them. My boss told me that they would lose much more value from me missing work injured than those boots would cost to replace, so not to worry about it and then gave me a fatherly lecture about being safe using a chainsaw before digging out safety glasses to send with me.

It's hard to make a bright line for abuse, but for a general rule I won't take anything or take advantage of anything I wouldn't pay for myself without asking ahead of time.

The no ads feature is important to me.

I had a subscription to Hulu Plus, and it pissed me off that I paid a subscription fee and had annoying commercials.

You couldn't really make it work in 5 or 6 2-hour movies. There is much more material in ASOIAF than there is in Harry Potter or something similar, and they had to split that into almost 10 full length movies.
