YouTube announced in March that they have 125 million premium subscribers.

I think they are carefully riding the balance between being free for the masses with ads while milking those who have the funds to get rid of ads.

I reckon they will continue to increase their subscriber base where other streaming services are plateuing.

Certainly, YouTube Premium has been worth it for me. A big quality of life improver.

On android I could click year and change that to gow old I am.

For projects like this the first thing I like to look at is a ChangeLog. That gives you a sense of the momentum.

Next was the paywall box selling me some complicated subscription deal.

Dreaming of a world wide web that cherishes writing.

Sure there are risks- but it is fantastic functionality to collaborate in a web first app like Figma or Google Workspace.

I have kept a book reading log on google sheets since 2007.

It's not on that wikipedia page but in older Linux desktops using XFree86 windows system (before X.Org) there were always warnings that certain monitor settings could break your monitor hardware permanently.

I was always fearful of breaking an expensive fat monitor.

I love the idea of decentralised apps for freedom of thought and privacy reasons.

One quibble with this claim: "with no server running 24/7 just to sync the data every once in a while, you avoid the production of the server in the first place and the energy it consumes when running."

Has anyone done any studies on this?

I personally wonder if a million book authors using Google Docs online on Chromebooks is going to be more energy efficient than a million local PC's running Libreoffice on Ubuntu?

Would there be a growing job market for people who master the Fuschia ecosystem now?

Google Takeout is good insurance. I backup my full google dataset every 6 months or so.

When Google AI blocks an account, why don't they offer a window of using Google Takeout to get a .zip of all their stuff?

Mailchimp emails are well known for having 1 click unsubcribe by default.

There has been a huge resurgence in email newsletters for companies and content creators to have a direct relationship with their audience.

Mailchimp have done well because email seems to continually survive as a medium.

I remember when Frogbot came out, it was pretty amazing.

You could train against it and improve very quickly.

However it also seemed to accelerate boredom with q1 multiplayer for me.

I hate the FU patterns as well, but there are so many lame aggregator sites scraping for viral content.

I would say FU patterns are: 80% trying to keep people in the walled garden ecosystem, 20% trying to make it hard for scrapers.

I'm amazed to see Matthias Clasen still involved 20 years later.

Love C64 basic programming in my childhood.

I would write basic programs with pen and paper in long car rides.

I used this while working in IT support.

If I responded immediately people never figured stuff out.

I pushed it too far and the CEO threw a temper tantrum in my doorway.
