I've been skeptical of NVIDIA products since playing with my Nano Jetson . The lack of various developers' success across different forums is striking. Also, the lack of actual support is striking (for example, it requires a downgraded Ubuntu host machine to receive flash updates).

My experience with Raspberry Pi products is a stark opposite. They just work.

As someone old to software but new to hardware, I'm not sure what to make of this.

A microdose should not need a sober friend and should not cause you to talk utter nonsense. The colloquial definition of microdose here is "that which has sub-cognitive effects". Its generally between 0.05 and 0.1 grams for cubensis strains of mushrooms.

The people who would very likely sway a decision on the block size are currently opposed to increasing the block size because (1) there is no immediate need to do so and (2) there is risk that there can be unintended consequences (one of which is making the network more centralized).

Some people, including Hearn (who is more vitriolic than the average) believe that #1 is false and #2 is a necessary risk.

I'm rolling my own signup (which is easy enough in Django), but I'd consider doing a Google login. Facebook & Twitter I wouldn't care to implement: My target audience wouldn't want to be mixing their social logins with my service.

I'm building a SaaS product right now and finding that there aren't very many sources for finding industry standards. Non-enterprise SaaS is quite new.

That said, I think the best thing to do is wait until you spot abuse, and create measures to prevent it. Work on your analytics and reporting systems rather than trying to contrive possible service abuses.

I'll probably check it out, thanks. Raising kids can be very unintuitive from my experience - I'm extremely lucky to have a very skilled mother for a wife (who is more scientific than intuitive).

And, there is no rush. Do not rush. The goal is to create a happy, healthy and capable person - not an impressive 5 year old. This is coming from someone who's wife spends most of her time educating and caring for his kids, who are therefore advanced relative to peers: it's not that important.

It IS important for kids to have caretakers who give them attention, opportunity to be capable for life and economy, and a happy and stimulating environment.

Working towards these things with your kid is literally more important than these things making your kid more developed.

Also: don't smoke or perform other bad habits around him. Nail biting, drinking, getting angry, gossiping, etc. These are negative habits that will rub off.

Don't look for hacks. Look for ways to instill healthy habits and skills that he can use for the rest of his life. I'm glad you brought up potty training and speech, because those are both great examples.

For speech, I recommend having conversations with him as you would an adult, and try to keep eye contact often enough that he sees your mouth as you speak. Don't hound him on mis pronunciations but feel free to correct him as you would a friend who is trying to learn English. Be as sensitive as you would be toward a friend if he gets frustrated or ashamed.

For potty training, he'll need a solid week at home with a toilet he is comfortable going in. Don't take him somewhere unless you can bring the toilet with you. I've brought it in the car before :O . Keep him naked or in regular underwear and be clear what the goal is. sometimes a treat after going in the potty works well. Someone will have to run him to the bathroom at times.

For whatever he likes (dinosaurs, animals, trucks), work on the names of different types. Flash cards work well : http://www.amazon.com/Animals-All-Kinds-Flash-Cards/dp/09382... . My daughter loves going through those while eating - she asks for them and we treat them like a reward for eating her food by herself (one bite, one card). She happens to not really like food.

Get good nutrition going immediately. Vegetables, fruit, and everything else you eat (stomache, allergy and spice issues permitting). Don't start juice if he isn't used to it, and water it down if he is.

Get the mom on the same page. And, remember, he's not your son. If you are going to treat him as your son, do what you can to make that official so that the risks of losing him are reduced. Marry, adopt, whatever. Or be cognizant to distance yourself a bit and be like an uncle.

I believe that demand will exist for software that requires jail breaking, and hardware that interfaces with Glass's standard inputs.

Think of high-income professionals who can make $xx,xxx more per year by face-identifying people in the street and knowing their job and income. I don't believe Google's API supports this, and there are bounds of examples I'm sure.

I agree that WordPress is fine just as it is.

I love that everything custom must go into wp-content. I love that any custom theme functions are supposed to go in functions.php. This keeps things easy to isolate and debug. Its an extreme whose opposite is Drupal, where some obscure functionality can be popping off in one of hundreds of .module or .tpl files.

Its pretty much summed up by "my gag reflex kicks in at the mention of a Drupal contract, WordPress is still pleasant-ish to work with".

Being called on for your expertise is not exclusive to learning new stuff (from anyone).

I suggest that you begin testing the boundaries of freelancing rather than trusting your own assumptions or the common beliefs of others.

I did for 3 years after my degree and faced daily admonition & nagging from my parents on why I didn't have a job. It was even harder to deal w/ their assumptions that I was "unemployable" / not good at my chosen path. Despite knowing none of that was true it's still hard when the only understanding most folks understand is your job / title / income one might gain from employment.

I even spoke at various conferences and this had no effect on my families opinion. I suppose you could say I lucked out after my first major tech conference because an O'Reilly editor was in the audience and I got an invite to the '04 Foo Camp. I distinctly remember sitting at a table chatting w/ the "Hot or Not" founders who were quite successful by that time. I remember desperately trying to conceal I was living in my parents basement, had no income, and what not.

Outside funding is going to be a bitch as unfortunately investors do not favor tools development despite how innovative they may be. You'll likely find yourself bootstrapping and need to release your work before you receive any sort of favorable discussion. The upside is that you'll retain 100% ownership.

Does it get better? I'm not going to lie... Things can get pretty shitty and daunting at times from economic to social relationships from friends to potential significant others. You may often find yourself pushed into out-group situations. I recently even faced this by general neighborhood friends of ~5-7 years.. Few people will understand why you may not show up too often on the weekends. It sucks when you stop getting invites to social events and see folks post pictures at them while you are working around the clock late into the evening Friday / Sat night. I can't even mention to potential dates that I run my own long term R&D oriented company and work nights and weekends quite often; doesn't matter if they work in the tech industry either.

Hah.. Well I have to get back to coding as the midnight oil has been burning since last night.

Don't stop... embrace the inherent truth / logic of your efforts... take solace that you can code fearlessly and without requiring permission from anyone else. You will rarely find this freedom as an employee or from inside the industry. Be bold and do things differently. It's not going to be easy by any means."
