I am in no position to call my self I can write good multi threaded programs but... damn people are bad. Once I worked in an embedded project that had sleeps in UI thread and then people started to use threads for 'optimizing'. It didn't go well
This looks awesome, thank you
There was some april joke like that, they even created data sheets if I remember it correctly
edit: found it http://www.repeater-builder.com/humor/signetics-wom.pdf I love 0V +- %2
Because "one bad js = frozen browser" is bad
Funnier thing is mall securities, you can't bring a small knife into mall but you can buy a chainsaw
You can always
#define private public
(!)and who are they? Serious question.
If my computer is letting me to play solitaire on my free time, I don't care which bot net it is contributing on its free time
I am trying to imagine some Valve engineer hits his head to wall and saying "Damn, we forgot about the offline mode"
What do you suggest then, Valve should give you unlimited copies of the game when you purchase one?
I have 0 knowledge in business world and how things work but wasn't Jobs basically Apple itself? Even if he does not have single-handedly vote percentage to make things reality for Apple, his reputation is not enough to force things?
I also have a cheap lawn mover! Send me a pm! If you pm now, I will add 2 xxl size trash bags to the deal!
If that is true, I can relate the HR or hiring people. It must be bad when majority of applicants are not suitable to job at all.
~2 months ago I started searching for a new job. I only applied that actually suits to me and I am capable. I only applied 3 places and all interviewed me, in the end I got 2 offers (I am starting next week!). I guess that is just me.
Microsoft's racist facial recognition Hah, I thought it was using infrared
He did a couple rectangle ones too. And it's cylindrical tool handles a lot more than cylinders.
In a group of male programmers As I said, male-female ratio is not that bad. Maybe 25% of total class? I am not sure about the numbers though.
I am not trying to ridicule people, It is just some facts I encountered before.
"confirmation bias"
It is not like I can be biased now, because there is no longer a data set for me. There is like 2-3 women (out of ~50) in the department I am working and they are not directly related to my area, weird huh?
I don't want to sound sexist but could be, just could be, is it possible that women are not as capable as when it comes to programming. waits for flames
I was a student assistant. I gave lab courses (lots of different types, cs 101, ai, graphics etc) and there wasn't a single girl that can actually do good. Sure there was some who can memorize a whole textbook and get A in grades thanks to exams but that was it. They were at best average for my case. And In my school, girl ratio is not that bad either. Even when I was a student, there was a single girl that applied and graduated as same year as males, all other females failed and prolonged their schools.
I am sure most of you met exceptional woman programmers, I am not denying that there might be exceptions. But from my personal experience women is not as capable as men in tech. That is pretty much my reasoning why there are so low interest in tech related courses/jobs for women
And then the threats of violence started: "The author of this article is a whiny bitch and needs a good beating to be put in her place." Ten minutes later, the rape threats began, and I shut down our comments site-wide. And then the emails started...
Seriously? I am thinking a little exaggeration. I don't think trolls would send e-mails, what is the point if noone reads your trolling.
And what is the fault of the teacher (other than visual basic). "Guys, please don't harass this girl", yeah tell that to a bunch of boys and see how that works. I don't think students would just openly harass her. He might be a bad teacher but harassments is not his fault.
If there is one to blame, I would blame the parents. Didn't he researched the school before applying her daughter? Doesn't her daughter already above high school programming?
I was expecting another minecraft clone but it looks awesome.
You will need gold plated cables that have resonance crystal around them to reduce polarisation
Well, your eyes can't see above 24fps so it does not matter
</joke>
Honestly, I don't care after 60fps, even for games. Are 4k monitors (smaller screens) available? I only see huge 4k TVs, never heard of monitors. (It is not like I can afford one though :()
That is quite awesome! I am not a fan of pay2win though. Also nice domain.
My first submission to HN! This one simply teaches operations and discusses some examples. I am planning to make more tutorials for BF that will show more advanced stuff and tricks.
I am also planning to make some enchantments to BF, like a graphic interface. You can see an example here (It is in Turkish, just press run) http://enginmercan.com/?p=32
// If statements require brace brackets, and do not require parens.
Even if it is single line?Still you are not writing a program though. Sure you are using algorithms, data structures but it is not a program. You are writing a helloworld.py while the real program is /usr/bin/python. I don't think you could a text file program unless it actually runs. Thus, not a programmer. If I write some code on paper, is it a program too?
Difference is just a word, I believe main issue is despising scripting languages.
It is like, "you are not man enough"
Although, I call the work itself "Python scripting" or "Shell scripting" so if only thing I was doing is those two then I would also call myself "Scripter".
I am also on ubuntu & firefox and font is almost only anti-alias for me, not even 1 px wide. I can't imagine Windows if it is thinner
"Oh man, I remember when everyone looked down on web programmers and PHP monkeys. "
I believe this is still the case
"web programmers"
hah!
I am a regular brainf*ck programmer and very interested in esoteric languages but this is beyond my expectations.
Maybe writing some kind of compiler would be a better idea. Or at least add a comment support and character check and more user friendly labels. They probably did that though (I hope they did).
