Clearly just for entertainment and not information Facebook alternative, in which GPT bots produce a significant fraction of posts, impersonating users and making stuff up. Everyone quickly learns you can't trust it, but it can still be cute/fun/humorous.

Billy Chasen developed faux-social network called Botnet. Unfortunately, it looks like it's gone and I doubt that name would have lasted long in the App store let alone how he managed to get it through.

Facebook kept it a lot simpler: you can just iterate through integers. 1 - 3 have been deleted but if you navigate to https://www.facebook.com/4 it redirects to https://www.facebook.com/zuck and so on. All the original founders are sub 10.

This reminds me of Matt Webb's piece titled "Instagram as an island economy"[1] where he writes about the concept of encoded labour: "Every "user" of Instagram is a worker. There are some people who produce photos -- this is valuable, it means there is something for people to look it. There are some people who only produce comments or "likes," the virtual society equivalent of apes picking lice off other apes."

Interesting that osquery is developed by Facebook and Santa is developed by Google. I do some work with Facebook and during a video conference with one of their employees the connection dropped out. When we reconnected I asked what happened and they said that the machine updated itself. I thought this was kind of an odd time to update and dropped it into the conversation and was told that their laptops are updated every day. Without an understanding of the inner workings of Facebook it seems like they may be snapshotting employee machines, daily.

One thing I would like to see is a revoke all apps button. Why does this have to happen on an app by app basis? Easy enough to do this via their API.

Contactless payment systems are prevalent in Australia. And even before tap to pay we were able to insert cards, enter a PIN and pay. What has happened in China is that they payment systems have been baked into the apps where, in Australia, this occurs at the terminal (EFTPOS as an example) which is app agnostic and tied directly back to the bank gatewys.
