What’s there to admire? This is common sense and he should have set these expectations from the start. why are people discussing politics at work?

I’ve never worked in the Bay Area, so could just be OOL but I’m genuinely surprised that this is such a big deal, or that this blog post got so much praise.

'Getting around the city' culture is just different here in LA. There's folks in NYC who make half million a year and take the subway several times a day.

living in LA without a car is the biggest lifestyle hack I've ever done. Best of all worlds.

people don't know this but LA is surprisingly fine without a car if you live in the right areas.

There are many people who live in west hollywood, downtown, santa monica who don't have cars! lyft/uber are also relatively cheap here.

It's simply good strategy to hire a diverse workforce so your products/services can spread to all types of markets.

do what I do: live in a walkable part of LA. I live in weho and left my car at my parent's house.

it took me like 6-7 months to go vegan, it was hard for me to give up omelettes and cheese. but one day, I woke up and just didn't want to eat it anymore.

Start to have vegan meals once a day. then 3x a week. slowly your taste buds change and then you don't want it anymore

there's nut milks and faux leather. nearly everything has a plant-based alternative and if something doesn't, it will have one soon.

this article is great advice for solo or small group of devs to test the concept first. a startup with funding or any company with tons of rev has plenty of money to plunge into the proper mobile dev team and also do user research to see what they'd want to have in the app to use it.

there's a big difference between typing a URL into a web browser & downloading an app:

1. go to the app store 2. search for it and find the right one 3. make sure you have the right amount of space for it 4. download it 5. place it on the 5th screen of your phone 6. never see it

the way you use your phone is different than others though. in the non-tech world people use less than 10 apps, email, social media, messenger, and maybe an investment portfolio

I remember trying to get people to download an app I made in college and it was pretty hard, even when the app would show up #1 in the app store results after searching the name. Website would have been smarter, but an email list serv would have been the best bet to get that strong user base.

Once you have the user base, then publish the mobile app. I just don't recommend starting out with it until you've proven the concept and have loyal users

fb's revenue is fine and their products have become fundamental parts of the internet, esp for people 40+ and in 3rd world countries.

its good for decreasing environmental harm. I won't be eating it though

difference is, NYC has all the talented MBAs, engineers and other smart people who will work 60+ hours a week already. that kind of culture just isn't present in many other cities
