What a rage bait title and un nuanced article. First of all provides no clear evidence. Second of all these articles are making folks in H1B the enemies. What a shame. The reality is that some folks on H1B are also the victims of the system. Rather than talking nuance about how it’s beneficial and how it’s abused and how to prevent abuse, it places workers against workers.

My strategy (when I did not have a dishwasher) is to only have the bare minimum of the dishes required outside. eg: 2 plates, two bowls, two spoons, forks etc for a family of two. This will mean that you will re-use your dishes over and over again, and washing becomes just a thing to do before you eat etc. Also sink will never get filled with dishes again.

Now, I have a dishwasher, and I just put dishes in the dishwasher as soon as I use it.

Highly advise going to MIT despite a lot of suggestions otherwise. You might not get any different education, but It is absolutely going to open doors that'll either allow you to do exactly what you want to do, or make a lot more money then otherwise possible.

I purchased a standing desk (Uplift ~60in * 30in) and couldn't be happier with the purchase. Main benefits is that I can actually adjust the height of my table to be actually ergonomic. My chair + table + monitors are all set right. I stand around 2-3 hours a day and that helps a lot.

This was an expensive purchase for me (Esp for a table) but well well worth the price.

Economy grows because of increasing productivity and programmers have been the forefront of increasing productivity. As long as this continues to be true, I think programmers will continue getting high pay

There is nothing wrong with vocational education. But the reality is that, on average, how well you do with college education largely depends on what degree you pursued and same is true with vocational education as well. If there is a lot of demand for your vocation, salaries will be higher regardless of whether it requires college degrees or not.

My main frustration with Teams are:

- Caching + searching : Their caching and searching is just terrible. It's surprising how hard it is to search older messages especially in a private group chat. scrolling up takes a long time. Images don't show up in the desktop app, so I have to open web app all the time.

- Centralized control: I agree that Teams is designed for centralized control. some of it might be good, but its a communation software, and telling people how to communicate seems like it'd defeat the purpose.

- Not being able to add External people: Agree with the OP, this is a pain. People in my org did this well with slack, but once we were asked to move to teams, we weren't collaborating with external folks the same way.

- Chat and Teams are two different windows. WHen I am in private chat area, I never see new messages in Teams area. Notifications for chat work fine when I am in teams area.

- Threading: I think threading is poorly implemented, since it collapses the thread when you reopen the app.

I feel like it would be an excellent improvement over email if this came out before slack. But slack has shown what a good chat software can do, and teams falls short in many ways.

High price, but really good hardware. Battery life is amazing, the screen is amazing. Its not 4k, but high enough DPI. Plus computers with 4k screen have crappy battery life.

I would highly highly recommend you to find problems you have seen in accountancy world that you can solve with programming. You could get both of both world, satisfaction of work you want to do while benefiting from your industry experience. No programmer (not in accountancy world) here knows about the issues and inefficiencies about it than you do, and you probably have a bunch of contacts you can test your ideas on. That way you keep your advantages of being in the accountancy world, while solving the issues they have by using programming which is what you want to do.

Nope. Very happy with my 2014 Macbook pro (15"). Won't be replacing it until it starts crapping out on me. I love the touch bar, but that's not a feature important for me to upgrade.

I had the same experience as a django novice until I started understanding how django works. Its actually a lot easier once you know some of the pieces eg. dj-database-url. I realized I had issues because I didn't understand how all the pieces fit together. ALso.. they have a template that you can download which essentially solves all the issues. Nowadays I always start with their template. or even if I have the app written, I will download django template from heroku, and plug in my apps to it.

Even if the mission is to cure cancer, thats the worst reason to not pay people well. Those are the most difficult problems, and you definitely need the best people to solve the hardest problems. If the idea is to pay people really poor because that problem is so difficult, I think its a bad idea and simply taking advantage of people, not to mention the best people will go solve other problems that pay them well.

Thre is a law in the US where employers must pay foreign workers with H1B Visas at least the average salary in that field. The law is already there to protect US workers. I read the title of that news story and immediately thought this was an "sensational" article targeted towards people who know nothing about how H1B Visa program works.

Now if the autoher of the article you posted was training foreign workers not in the US, that would be a different thing. But the article specifies that the person was in the US. Article has some serious bias against foreign workers even though the facts say otherwise.

I am pretty doubtful of your statement as conservative media does a pretty good job of making people believe what the republical party wants them to believe.
