Because sometimes you are expected to write working code on whiteboard. Once interviewer was typing code I wrote on laptop and interrupting me on errors he had.

Facebook Messenger also has similar feature.

It does. They're profitable even with fairly small engineering team considering size of their user base.

You can easily replace template engine and ORM in Django when your project becomes large. I've personally made this several times.

MBP is most widely used pro audio laptop. Some people I know do simple mixing without plugging an external audio interface, just using built-in audio. It seems that Apple does not care about those people anymore.

We do not pay H1B's less.

According to some people I know (they are all on H1B) typically H1B offer is 10-15% less than average at software big corp such as Microsoft and Google.

I am sure Google has way more "unsexier" projects than G+.

They still do not have monetization strategy and chats are not encrypted by default.

I am not sure if Wire (another messaging app without clear monetization strategy) is better. We might end in the same situation in a few years.

They removed paid subscription several months ago. It seems that they can make more money from matching WhatsApp and Facebook social graphs than from annual subscription.

It's great on smartphone, but useless on laptop. PC laptops have had fingerprint scanners since forever.

It seems that they will make Hello an add-on instead.

I've just read the blog post and it seems that they will migrate Mac client to Electron soon. That sucks, since I like native Mac client.
