I haven't been able to do that too, but, here's my experience regarding smartphone use--When I was using an Android, I'd go to accessibility settings and turn the display grayscale. It felt so /tasteless/. Like food without salt. And my smartphone use went down.

When I switched to iOS, I deliberately chose the little SE 2020 edition with a terrible battery so I wouldn't use it much and it has worked. I still click a lot of pictures, use the banking apps, whatsapp here and there, readonly email access but haven't been wasting time on it and it makes me happy :D

In fact my first smartphone ever was a BlackBerry Q10 (in 2018!), deliberately chosen to not get into smartphone addiction.

Not necessarily either. Think of the Audacity fiasco. We were very comfortable using the Debain package but not their Flatpack and obviously not the snap. I realise I'm replying to a subtext but the context is the same.

They're already done by the Debian people.

I sort of have a bad taste about this project. I'll use proper support channels and won't rant here, but what happened was that my card was being declined trying to sign up. Thought I could self-host on a linode somewhere given the code is in the public domain, but there is no documentation :/

What would you do with it?

Here's how...

1. Find out where the Edge executable is; copy its path.

2. Open 'Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security'

3. Select Inbound Rules (Left pane).

3.1 Click on 'New Rule' (Right pane)

3.2 Set the type of rule to Program, click Next and paste the exe path and delete the quotation marks. Click Next.

3.3 Set the Action to 'Block the connection' and then select where this rules applies (select all three options). Click Next.

3.4 Specify a name (and an optional description) for the rule.

Done!

I also made a blocking outbound rule, but I don't think it's necessary for this purpose.

I ended up blocking Edge in the firewall so it would at least close quickly without loading any useless stuff. Even then the firewall rule would reset periodically so I made a new one that points to the Edge binary.

The reason I'm sharing this episode is the format (also that this is Douglas Adams :D). I've never seen quite anything like this.

Cannot imagine the effort that is gone to produce a show like this, and I wish there were more.

When you embed Google Fonts on your website, the IPs of your visitors, the URLs of the pages they visited, and the User-Agent of their browser is sent to Google. Now they say[1] they don't use this information for profiling and targeted advertising, but they very much /can/.

Given Google's business model, I personally don't have a reason to trust them with my visitor's data, no matter what they do with it. Self-hosting the required fonts is a 2-minute job anyway.
