Development doesn't require any more CPU than word processing. You're type stuff up, and there is a pretty strict grammar check. I don't get why people why people want to run huge things on a laptop. It is way more economical to shell into a beefy server when you need big iron instead of carrying it with you.

The Lofstrom Loop is possible today for a few billion dollars. Though "catching" an incoming capsule with a Loop is going to take a while to human-certify.

Ignoring the BS about coriolis, I think there is something legit here.
Of course there isn't any power to be gained from the vortex. What you would gain is a lot of RPMs from very little head. It makes the system be high speed and low torque. The dynamos would be higher voltage (lower amperage), the wiring and inverters are cheaper with lower amperage, and the structure doesn't have to be as strong since the torques are lower. It might even automatically safe during floods, since too much water entering it would distrupt the vortex and halt the wheel.
It is more like a clever hydraulic gearbox that potentially makes all the other components less expensive. Or am I completely off base? The water is spinning around faster than it would be flowing out, correct?

It is also more robust than k-means. The author's algo will only work on scanned images. Photographed pages from a book will often have a slight shadow on half the page from the curvature. Blur-divide will clean this up. K-means will think you've used a lot of gray and not figure out that there are multiple background colors.
A simpler way of achieving the same thing is to duplicate the layer, blur the top layer heavily, and then set it to "divide".
It was faster to do this than reading the content the way it was intended. Because they were using random selection you'd have to click 370 times to have a 90% chance of seeing all 59. It is nearly impossible (like 7 nines impossible) to see all of them in under 120 clicks.
How did we both do this at exactly the same minute? You botched up something with the encoding though.
This is absolutely infuriating to read because they've made it so that items are chosen randomly. Instead they should be using a shuffle. That way you don't have any repeats until you've seen everything, at which point the deck should be reshuffled. As it stands you're basically playing cookie clicker trying to find that last one. It can still be rational, but you need to look at shopping as an aggregate of probabilities.
Let's make it more extreme. A $50 item for free or $50 off a $5000 purchase. Discounts as big as 100% off don't come every day. Maybe you'll never see that deal again in your life. You should jump on it. Where as a 1% discount is something you see every day at dozens of stores. There will probably be a bigger discount next week, so don't bother going out of your way.
If you have to make a choice between the two, you choose the item with the less-common discount.

Eh, I'll stick with the PocketBeagle board. It is half the price, very easy to source, doesn't require any special connectors and has those extremely useful PRUs.
Slightly larger, slower and no wireless connectivity but that is a worthwhile tradeoff.

I have not been too impressed with fancier SAT solvers. I'm currently drafting a blog post where I compare Minisat, Picosat, Cryptominisat, Lingeling and Glucose. (Those were all that I could easily get running on Linux. Open to more suggestions.)
The venerable Minisat was (for the most part) the fastest in my simple use case. What I did notice though was that the "smarter" solvers were more consistent. A poorly written CNF might take 50x longer than it should (when compared to N-1 and N+1 instances). Minisat (but moreso Picosat) would occasionally hit an edge case or something and slow way down. Fancier solvers produced a nice clean line on the graphs, without anomalous 50x spikes.

Hard evidence? I can't give you that. But look at all of the other mammals out there. Almost all of them spend substantial amounts of time sitting.
Traditional hunter-gatherer societies do almost of their work and food processing sitting down. Every hobbyist flint-knapper works sitting down.
The difference is they don't use chairs. Sitting in a chair is bad - just consider the risk of embolisms on long flights. It removes the need for your body to actively support itself and restricts motion. Anecdote of size one, but for me the biggest help was getting rid of the traditional "throne" chair and replacing it a very broad stool. I can comfortably sit cross legged on it all day. I'm constantly moving and shifting my weight forwards and back, leaning and reaching since I can't just roll a chair around.
It has required making some unusual furniture to use a computer comfortably. Like all of my keyboards are tilted the "wrong" way (away from me) with the front higher than the back. Much easier on my hands and wrists.
