One of the best pieces of advice I got when I started ages ago was to just put electric strings on the acoustic. If you're just practicing in your bedroom it will be much easier to play than on stiff acoustic strings. Give it a shot.

When you're ready to record then you can put acoustic strings on it, heh :-)

Had this as a kid, for the most part it was great! I remember Vectorman being one game that never seemed to work well.

I'm just 40 but it sounds like we are like minded in a lot of ways. Never stop being curious. There's always something new out there. The joy of discovering some obscure metal band with 7 followers on Spotify or bandcamp that you intensely resonate with is unmatched. It's one of my favorite experiences.

One of the things I've learned about myself over the past decade is I'm an outlier in terms of the listener profile. I crave albums over songs. That crafted experience an artist creates for the listener makes it all for me. Perhaps it's because I'm also a musician, but something about a group of songs becoming greater than the sum of it's parts has an endearing, emotional impact on that listening session. I think a lot of playlist driven listening loses out on that.

Seconded, I play in several very loud metal bands and I went through this same process around 2016 and my earplugs are still going strong. I love the option of changing the filters at will. Well worth the time and money, for me.

Which ceiling fan remote? I've been fighting with our bedroom fan, we like the performance but the remote works maybe once out of every 100 presses unless I climb up on our bed and extend my arm into the middle of the fan housing.

I got it last week and played through the tutorial and then about 30 minutes after that. It's really well done :-)

Big fan of last.fm and have used it when compiling my "year in review" posts.

It's a great service and, as others have mentioned, it really does a great job of finding obscure and relevant suggestions on underground metal bands that I enjoy.

It's particularly good at high quality, relevant recommendations for new bands with little following.

I noticed a bug, not sure where to post feedback so posting here. When you change the vertical order the string labels don't change so it's unclear which way it is. The fret number markers do update when you change the left/right order, though, that one is more important.

Anecdotal evidence but I've had a great experience with the first gen X1 Extreme 4K and running ubuntu 18.04.

Blood Bowl is outstanding. I used to play with friends in high school (I had a dark elf team) and still have my miniatures and board.

If you play PC games there is an equally excellent PC version, Blood Bowl 2.

You typically stay in the same city for more than a single night in baseball, though. 2-4 game series v. 1 game then out.

I also have a X1 Extreme, it's a bit smaller than the MacBook touchpad, but I concur that it is very responsive and works reasonably well with ubuntu 18.04.2.

Grandia 2 was awesome, I completely forgot about that. The original was really good, as well.

I use digitalocean's DNS and had no problems getting wildcard certs. It's a bit annoying to wait for the updated records to resolve but other than that I had no issues.

The CALF Plugins are pretty excellent, for the most part. Those are free (as in beer and as in speech, IIRC).

I always used hydrogen as just a drum sampler, and did all the midi work in ardour. I have since switched back to cubase / superior drummer 2 for most stuff, but I still have a subscription for ardour.

Agreed, PS3 controller wired on linux seems to just work for me for most controller games.
