Eschew flamebait. Avoid generic tangents. Omit internet tropes.

Please don't post shallow dismissals, especially of other people's work. A good critical comment teaches us something.

Please don't use Hacker News for political or ideological battle. It tramples curiosity.

I have the exact same workflow as you.

icloud works great.

Was thinking of proton but reading your comment has changed my mind, good catch-all custom domain support is a must for me.

icloud mail support custom domains.

I am using them.

Sending an email from catch-all covered email is not a big issues also, create use, delete and it still works.

I am slowly transitioning to icloud from gmail, was thinking of proton but reading the above comment made me change my mind, good custom domain support is a must for me.

I have seen people fired in the morning and their access cutoff by noon and them being asked to go on "gardening leave" in Europe.

This is rare but depends on your manager, if they don't want you around. You will still be paid for the remaining of your "employment" but will not be working.

Software side also does not look bright, France is doing much better innovative tech than Germany.

Swiss, Dutch and Swedes are all also doing much better imho.

Not an expert in solidity but from my limited experience EVM and smart contracts have really different approach when it comes to computation.

two things that come to my mind:

- There is really no random() function due to need for determinism

- Space vs. Time complexity is distorted, the gas you pay for instruction vs. byte is really different economics compared to AWS EC2 instance/hour etc.

I have mixed feelings about this policy as a berliner.

But the article is definitely skewed towards the landowners and huge renting companies.

Some facts for you:

Rate of home ownership among Berliners, Londoners, Parisans:

- Berlin: 17.5%

- London: 52%

- Paris: ~60%

The main problems is huge home-renting corporations. The article refers to a separate discussion about breaking up huge companies that own more than 3,000 apartments. As far as I know this criteria meets only a couple of huge companies such as Deutsche Wohnen that over the past couple of years have artificially created a sense of scarcity and caused the rent to increase without a proportionally increase to wages(Not only blue collar but also High Tech wages)

It is very ironic that companies such as Deutsche Wohnen were able to grab so many apartments when Berlin wall fell with dirt cheap prices. You can argue rushed privatisation caused this problem and something needs to be done if Berlin wants to avoid becoming SF.

I see a lot of mentions of GDPR in the comments, but the fact is that the sensitivity of personal information is an older mindset(not only a law) in Germany.

It is called "Datenschutz", and you see people proactively adhering to it, needed some time as a foreigner to get used to how rigorously they apply it, but when I got used to it, felt "safer" knowing whoever handles my data, knows how sensitive it is.

See https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Datenschutz for more information about the history.
