That is an extremely strong claim that I simply cannot support. English is beautiful elegantly designed and trivial to learn compared to french.

Also, if you talk on some mid level (say B1, which takes a LOT of effort for french language), you are not going to get laughed at and ridiculed when using it in UK/US/Australia/NZ etc with english. A very common experience in France when trying to use french (I go there every other weekend, its just across the border). Folks from other parts of former french empire like quebecois or corsicans are much more approachable in this and tolerant. Suffice to say their language variant is often mocked by mainland french too, I think personally parisians are the most cocky ones.

In our tiny little village of 2000 people, we have 4 small castles (chateaux). Next one also has some. So does next one.

Its fine if its not exhaustive list. All major I could think of in few european countries I could find with all info correctly. Thank you for this effort, much appreciated.

There is always android VLC app to decode anything, you just need enough power in chipset to handle that. Not perfect, had some quirks unseen on desktop VLC but generally fine.

But yeah external stick is much safer solution, then even tvs like TLC are a great brand.

Health care, housing, and education

In Europe its only housing, and still proportionally cheaper than what US has, often in higher quality for older homes (bricks / concrete vs cheap creaky wooden houses).

The idea of saving massive amounts for my kids potential university studies is ridiculous to me. Same for any health issue. I mean any health issue as long as I can work, and then social state takes over (that is not ideal but at point nothing is).

This is also how happiness can be defined - lack of (much shorter list of) constant worries and pressures to deliver, sustain etc.

Does the world really need to be reduced to binary state, people being black or white and nothing else? I know its supremely convenient mentally, this is how populists ride their huge waves and its each of us in the crowd that allow that.

I find it much more compelling to fully see some negative aspect(s) of someone's past existence while accepting that if I grew up in that era, I would have vastly different morals and probably be fine with that.

Judge others not too harshly if you may, since you will also be judged further down the line and most surely will be judged as inadequately moral or good by their standards, didn't do enough to help preventing some proper shit happening/will happen and so on, rather looked away while milking some comfy job for those sweet dollars (we all have kids and families and mortgages and dreams I know, so does everybody else).

Most people here work for FAANGs of this era for example, hardly moral corporations by any metric and some literally sowing evil ie in cancers called social networks and their gamifications or pushing unwanted ads / outright lies into every eyeball they can reach. And those companies are hardly the only black spots on current society, I'd even say purely moral work is rather rare.

Not sure why the need for immediate attack, another thing that happened literally everywhere is - there are way more people in big towns, which have extremely limited and sort of static supply even while continuously growing on outskirts.

Guess what - almost all folks complaining (also here seen on many occasions) want short commute to their well paid work, nobody ain't commute for 2h every day. Those few places are even more limited. Guess where most immigrants go to and stay there - its not your backwardish xenophobic bucolic little villages in the middle of nowhere with old empty houses breaking down. You won't hear folks living there complaining old properties nobody wants are too expensive.

I can go on and on and on, making stats like that beyond useless. We all see actual effects. All is connected and continuously influencing other parts of whole, including immigration and other stuff. Current situation on any market is the living proof of that.

Kimi Work 2 days ago

No its pretty realistic. Nobody is losing their sleep when ultra-wealthy thief gets robbed for their stolen possessions or money made out of those, do they.

It was tried many times, it never worked for exactly 1 same reason over and over again - for all that utopia to actually work sustainably long term, it expects ideal citizens. As in selfless, truly dedicated to society above their own needs, uncorruptable and non-realistic in other ways.

I've seen it personally fail miserably and destroy entire nation's spirit for generations to come (on top of other things destroyed for good).

Needless to say, capitalism with its harshness to laziness and carrot on the stick for hard workers got within 2 generations massively ahead, to the point where Gorbachev didn't believe it wasn't Potemkin village setup when visiting some random grocery store in western Germany and seeing the vast amount of produce and quality available to everybody, on level even he personally could only dream of back home.

fico is extremely against Ukraine and its president, and correspondingly extremely pro-russian to the point of being their lapdog. Their entire government is just a clownshow full or properly primitive incompetent people that make an average MAGA an elite intellectual in comparison, and openly racist/xenophobic extreme right wing bordering neo nazis types (I wonder why those types end up being traitors/collaborators with russians also in other places, I guess easiest group to manipulate/bribe).

That they throw guilt on Ukraine doesn't mean anything at all since its all politics to shift blame anywhere but their own incompetency, especially without specific proofs provided (for which there aren't any even 18 months after the crime).

fico is russian crony for a long time. On purpose he made the country very dependent on russian oil and especially gas, more than any other EU country (maybe with exception of hungary). 4 years into the war and no migration to other sources is planned so he can every winter go back to blocking things due to .

At this point he is just subverting EU on putin's whims. Stealing half of EU funds evidently wasn't enough for him, plus he can see some protection in the east, west has only future jail for him. If one country should be kicked out right now, it should be this one.

-> repair, if repeated police or company will maybe put on a little camera, and then suddenly your hobby lands you in jail with enough time in to ponder why childish behavior is ruining one adult's life

Read up a bit on it. You have numerous signs over the town that state explicitly canning in case of participating in any form of protest that government will consider violent. How that is defined is of course on... government. Read up on how they treat immigrants, its basically serfdom pyramid of massive exploitation on all levels of poor from neighboring countries - confirmed by colleagues living there long term.

Its great little bubble, but not of democracy, or freedom, far from it, rather some moebius-esque utopia of few elites above everybody else. They are also openly racist & xenophobic in their laws, ie in immigration they have to maintain exactly same racial/ethnic split as in the past, so people are granted citizenship on quotas of their ethnicity / skin color (so of course white people are not that welcome, just temporarily tolerated). If this is required to keep everybody in check and behaving nicely, I can easily skip that and raise my children away from such twisted panopticon.

You want an actual long term stable utmost free society for past 800 years and counting? Switzerland. People are nice and tolerant because they are nice and not from the fear of repressions on every step. 30% of residents are foreigners yet society doesn't boil in internal conflicts, I'd say by far the best managed immigration I ever saw. One has to experience it personally to understand the massive difference compared to most of the world. Tons of guns yet very little gun violence (compared to US non-existent). All aspects of society work at least as good or more often better than rest of Europe/world.

Is that so shocking on dominantly US forum? I wouldn't expect different situation, people are not 100% objective even if they try hard.

That being said, >95% of the world lives outside US and in recent times (culminating with orange man's second term but started way before) US has alienated literally every single other country, democratic or not. This is what happens when reins are firmly held by unstable people full of pettiness and mental issues, plus visibly corrupt too.

So division deepens as seen also here, and as much as 20th century was a century of US, 21st century is and will be one of China. Every move US makes now just pushes whole situation further into that direction. So folks cheer for their own camp, not some larger common group of aligned friends.

There is a kinder variant for such - prosecco, which can actually mean OK quality (within sparkling stuff bounds, which are not high).

But yeah calling anything Champagne apart from stuff coming from Champagne is a bad form and looked down upon a bit. Small kids do such mistakes and thats fine, adults shouldn't.

Exercise, often, not too hard, over short time you'll get your personal level better than any coach could do. It will also prolong your life easily by 10 years and add tons of quality into it, will make you happier and more connected to your own body. All people I know also corrected their eating habits aggressively, its all connected.

If you dont have enough time get to the point when you can do HIIT safely, its literally 15-20 min max. If you have time, add long walks on rest days for example, or whatever is available to you nearby (ie swimming/surf if usable water body nearby).

Mg or melatonin have 0 effects on me, Mg helps if I over-exercise but thats for muscles regeneration.

I dont have problems normally, just cant sleep in high altitude, 3000m is already showing mild effects. Guess what, I do/did quite a bit of mountaineering, its easy to get above 5000m in himalayas, highest I've been in tent attempting to sleep before summit push was 6000m on Aconcagua. Tried both Mg and melatonin up there over multiple nights, 0 improvements. I had highest O2 blood level measured in 5500m by doctor (mandatory there) from whole group.

Physical effort makes better sleep for literally everybody, thats age old knowledge and I havent met a single exception yet.

Never done that, muscle memory is simply not there. But then again i dont watch youtube on phone, computer with ublock origin is vastly superior experience.

There is whole world to read and discover before switching to passive videos. Or even spend time here lol

New Commodore flip phone - has google maps and whatsapp for calls and video, otherwise a dumb phone.

Hard to argue below 18 actually needs more. Wants, sure, but then whole cancerous can of worms is opened and good luck there.

I dont think you are getting the topic - sure if knowledge gleamed from llms is immediately practiced repeatedly, it stays, why would anybody question that.

Now add 30 or 50 or 100 other topics you dip into on any given day. No way in hell you do same technique of repetition till you learn it. This is gist of problem to me. Most students these days fall into this category and the amount of time/energy to properly learn something has stayed the same or even increased (due to distractions and pushing through mental barrier of 'I know it well enough')

Thats... not how most of the world is using llms. Students are getting measurably dumber (as in lacking actual topic understanding, since actually learning sonething properly is much harder than shallow knowledge), every other day I read about somebody losing their wealth due to listening to llms with finances.

Other recent articles - psychologists start seeing people losing their uniqueness and many people slowly veering towards same middle bland opinions.

I think top parent is correct - we are in the process of visibly losing a lot from our humanity, much more than we are gaining. We shouldnt be listening too much to loudest mouths here that praise efficiency gains, many of those are 'semi-autistic' folks with tunnel vision focused on 1 aspect and ignoring larger picture.

I dont see any change of course possible, the sweet nectar of efficiency and offloading decisions and work is too strong a drug to ignore. But everything has its set of benefits and drawbacks, and drawbacks here seem pretty brutal so far.

That cell cpu made development a hell according to devs. Or SDK around, at the end it doesnt matter. Sony even admitted to this being their strategy, so that later games look better and better as even brilliant devs only over time figured out how to squeeze full performance out of HW.

What an arrogance that everybody paid for in final prices. Well, thats yesterday reality, arrogance of companies thinking they have endless moat and can milk users forever is always eventually punished. Not losing sleep over them.

This behavior and inevitable result can be mapped into many other things, ie current german car manufacturing.

They are a fad, like many before, and not the best one due to copy&paste uniformity. Since its used so aggressively and so often, many places look weirdly similar like if many people bought exactly same Ikea furniture. Proper wood like oak can be very pretty in many forms but this is not.

In future it will clearly mark the era of (re)construction.

They are awful to even look at, IHMO. Cold, sterile, tells something about people living in such fugly soulless places.

Which is fine to be honest, its nice to see clearly the type of person on the other side of the table, no need to dig through empty speech clutter for clues. But impressive it is not.
