I was skeptical but I just opened it and the UI does look cleaner and less bloated than X. However, UI is fixable and what matters more is content. There needs to be a compelling reason to switch, and I don't see one yet.

I haven't used Signal in a while, so I probably misremember some of what it supported. I just looked it up though and Signal's delete feature seems to leave a "This message was deleted" placeholder like what Facebook Messenger does, which looks a bit annoying to me (https://support.signal.org/hc/en-us/articles/360050426432-De...). Telegram just directly removes the message for everyone.

Signal has probably the worst UX of any messaging app. It also used to require sharing phone numbers to add contacts, which imo is already a privacy violation.

Telegram is fast, responsive, gets frequent updates, has great group chat, tons of animated emojis, works flawlessly on all desktop and mobile platforms, has great support for media, bots, and a great API, allows edits and deleting messages for all users, and I really like the sync despite it not being e2e.

I actually worked on this part of the Google Search infrastructure a long time ago. It's just JSC with a bunch of customizations and heuristics tuned for performance to run at a gigantic scale. There's a lot of heuristics to penalize bad sites, and I spent a ton of time debugging engine crashes on ridiculous sites.

Nobody has ever linked me or talked to me about something on Threads, and the only reason I know it still exists is because of annoying ads on Instagram.

Threads is far from mainstream and just filled with spam and OnlyFans spammers at this point.

Macs have always had great battery life and the Apple Silicon chips took it to another level. It remains to be seen if any Windows laptop can actually consistently achieve their marketed battery life given Windows’ terrible track record for power management and proper sleeping.

That was my impression too, that this was more of a thread to slander Telegram than anything.

The main leg that Signal has to stand on is it uses standard encryption, but it has all kinds of shady components like it used to require sharing phone number to contact someone, and the cofounder Moxie launched some MOB crypto scam which went to 0 and he has now quit the project too.

If anything this makes me seriously rethink my use of homebrew. I already had security-related concerns around it, but the fact that he launched this weird crypto thing that's going to cause a lot of spam on GitHub is pushing me even further away.

I'm sick and tired of getting notifications about Threads when I'm on Instagram.

The notifications are very hard and sometimes impossible to turn off. I like Instagram, but I couldn't care less about Threads. Being forced to get these notifications constantly gives me a strong urge to nuke my profiles on both apps.

I haven't experienced any instability with personal routers to be honest.

They likely violated RICO by essentially nuking the company's valuation and trying to sell to Anthropic. That is a crime, by the way, so they don't seem above that.

They haven't given even a clear reason for firing Sam. "Not being candid" with no evidence doesn't sound like it directly violates "the charter", but you can really argue anything when you're just "interpreting" the charter.

Anyway, you can make infinite excuses for their actions and justify them infinite ways. Hopefully you agree that the current situation is a giant mess, and it's caused by their narrow misguided interpretation of their job, and it's at the expense of basically everybody else.

How far should she go to fulfill her interpretation of that duty? Should she even commit crimes in order to keep the non-profit mission? There's 700+ employees that disagree with her interpretation of the company's mission, and yet she stubbornly maintains that hers is correct and that it's her duty to destroy the company (or even sell it to Anthropic) to fulfill her duty.

This is delusion, and she thinks she's some hero that's saving the world by keeping it a non-profit when in reality it's just creating needless chaos and even impacting innocent people's livelihoods.

In EA, the ends always justify the means, so that includes doing any or all of the things you mention if it achieves some ideological goal.

But she was biased. She seemed so biased against her own company that her intended course of action seems to be to destroy it.
