SEEKING WORK

Location: Bristol, UK

Remote: Yes

Hi all, I’m an engineering leader with experience building and scaling empowered engineering teams. Previous roles include Head of Engineering at a travel scale-up and Head of Technology at a political party here in the UK.

I'm launching a software engineering management consultancy, focussing on three areas:

- Engineering team management, leadership, and coaching

- Preparing for investment

- Hands-on software engineering

If you want to work with me, please drop me an email at `work at jw.pe`. Check out https://www.jw.pe/blog/consulting-launch-2022/ for more details of what I can offer.

I enjoyed this article right up until the end, when I expected the author to use his new-found knowledge to suggest a method for removing features that caused less friction. Instead, his response was more "Now that I know why people behave this way, I don't need to care about it." Doesn't seem at all constructive to me.

You're completely right to say that we shouldn't generalize to every iPhone 4 based on personal experience. I was just confirming that my experience correlated with the description in the post. Obviously 'everybody who had an iPhone4 had or having this problem' is hyperbole, but it's probably evidence of a widespread issue if there are a large number of complaints about it.

"Oh well, so after I got the iPhone 4 finally I could use the phone for a whole day, but the Home button... It's not working, and everybody who had an iPhone 4 had or having this problem. So basically speaking 100% of the iPhone 4 yield was defective."

Too true. I bought a Nexus 4 because I had this problem, and the alternative was paying £100+ for Apple to fix my button. Surely the sole button on a device should work for the lifetime of the device?

Viewing this on mobile, it appears that the entire world is undergoing some kind of catastrophic seismic event.
