Take a look at https://github.com/hapostgres/pg_auto_failover it's quite simple to use and manage. You can use libpq support for target_session_attrs (been there since Pg 10 - https://paquier.xyz/postgresql-2/postgres-10-libpq-read-writ... ) so you don't need active loadbalancer in front of your Pg cluster.

You can however create your own health/status check service on top of pg_autoctl show state and use HAProxy if required.

I don't think there's something easier to setup and manage than pg_auto_failover, Patroni always appeared very complicated to me.

I don't want to live in a city. It's noisy, polluted, crowded and I really like my small countryside house with plenty of land around it. Lived in a city for 20 years, got fed up with it, despite all of the alleged 'advantages' it offers. I guess I don't deserve decent infrastructure in your world view?

Every political system clouds the reason and appeals to emotion. There are very few policies anywhere that are grounded in science. They may be, initially, until they get massacred by politicians to get them aligned with currently dominant ideology (which by definition is a belief system, grounded mostly in fairy tales about who's better than everyone else).

The only real concern for remote workers is decent Internet connectivity. And that's a basically solved problem with 4G and/or Starlink. You can live anywhere you want... so why limit yourself to overcrowded capital with bad infrastructure? It's similar in Slovenia, everyone complaining about how bad prices in Ljubljana are but still fixated on living there.

Big trees very close to a house? Not the best idea, you're always a storm away from serious damage to the house. Tree roots will also eventually damage any kind of surface around the house or house foundation. And trees with shallow roots are really probe to get knocked over in heavy wind.

You can't buy time. And a demanding job that'll get you that 20k/month will start to degrade your health at some point, rather sooner than later. I heat my house with a wood burning enclosed fireplace connected to an external air supply. Any other heating solution is kind of the less optimal choice when you own wood supply chain (forest and some tools to prepare wood for heating).

But yeah all those planet saving heat pumps need some advertising anyway.

Because SQL and relational data. They're (MySQL and Pg) a lot more familiar to setup and maintain. There's a lot of managed services offering for the usual SQL databases.

Cassandra/Scylla come with a lot of limitations when compared to typical SQL DB. They were developed for specific use cases and aren't at all comparable to SQL DBs. Both are completely different beast compared to standard SQL DBs.

Jet engine intake is basically a giant vacuum cleaner... and the jet engine itself can be destroyed by a small debris like small stones etc which is plentiful around any kind of a road. And a damaged jet engine is kinda bad news on takeoff, especially if there's only one to begin with.

A-10's high mounted jet engines are up there for a reason. It can operate from almost anything resembling a runway.

Take a look at the OTEL (Open Telemetry) tooling and libraries. Or Grafana stack/offering with Prometheus, Tempo and Loki. Centralized logging and service calls/code execution tracing is not exactly new. It is often an afterthought.. and then you get yourself is this kinds of unpleasant situations.

And since you didn't implement correct tooling from the start, your team is even smaller and more limited... because you have little to zero idea on what your services are up to.

As per db instances... you upgrade them one by one. Unless there's some really bad bugs present (security or otherwise) there's no rush in upgrading stuff just because.

What exactly you think are hazards in 3D printing? And low-voltage electronics? I am honestly curious to know... because I don't treat any of that as hazardous at all.

Woodworking can be hazardous when using power tools... but you can always go with hand tools only and that should be mostly risk free excluding possibility of minor cuts and bruises - but you can get these even when preparing food.

I do a lot of stuff around the house myself (renovation, making/adapting stuff, preparing my own wood for house heating, small electrical repairs, etc) and the only thing I am afraid of is the chainsaw. That thing can do significant damage even slightest mistake when being used, anything else is manageable given the usual precautions (protective gear, doublecheck that electric switches, wires, etc are not hot when working on them, etc...).

I really fail to understand how you can push "light technology" while using a modern computer connected to the Internet - both are very very far away from being light in terms of technology involved. In fact the technology making both run is incredibly complex/sophisticated with a high environmental impact resulting from production, assembly and shipping of components required to make it work.

Wanna go light? Ditch your computer, phone and most of electronic/digital devices you use every day (for a start, then follow up with car and basically anything that depends on "heavy technology" to exist and run). But that is probably not the lifestyle you're imagining ATM.

I live in a rural area and air here is significantly better than smog filled and ozone enriched air in the city I used to live in. Not to mention the lack of winter fog that can linger around for weeks at times.

And that's excluding the light and noise pollution that are inevitable in urban areas. Yeah, living in a rural area is pure hell.

I had a raid6 array going almost bad when 2 HDDs called it a day at the same time years ago. Had to send the entire office of 30 people to unscheduled holiday for two days before the array was rebuilt with new drives. Third drive failing during the rebuild would likely result in a week off as the storage would need a full rebuild.

I can imagine something similar happening here, however there should be a fail over storage setup in case they're selling a service.

You should be able to get years of support for established brands. They are all using similar/identical components (Shimano, Yamaha, Bafang mid drive motors, similar battery packs, etc). There's also aftermarket support/custmizations available for them.

Going with a small/exotic brand will always carry a risk of brand disappearing, no aftermarket options, hard to get spare parts, etc... And e-bike business is especially competitive these days so I wouldn't bet on some random hipster brand having any chance to survive in the battle against established brands.

Start with changing your job to an environment where you could make an impact. Then start making an impact - take ownership of your work, help coworkers who get stuck/hung up on a problem, be active in planning sessions, communicate your thoughts and worries openly, push stalled tasks forward, etc... That usually gets noticed pretty fast.

Nobody will notice, reward or promote some guy sitting in some corner, feeling sorry for himself. Being a good manager means helping your team, shield it from the everyday crap flying around, fighting for answers, resources, helping people to deal with hard situations in life (divorce, health problems, death). You need to be actively involved in your work - and that's exactly what you're having problems with ATM.

What Germany gained is more pollution, higher CO2 emissions and a lot of hopium that current energy fubar will somehow be resolved sometimes in the unspecified future using semi specified technology (there is no large scale energy storage solution available for renewables and it will stay like this for some years to come). Shutting down nuclear was a political decision, fueled by pure ideology (and some Russian help because natural gas exports).

What entire EU gained is getting to support often unstable electricity grid in Germany. So we all gained a lot by the looks of it.
