I find it most annoying when a computer is used in basically any TV show or movie. The actors always look to just be tapping on the keys at random, often hitting completely irrelevant keys to the task at hand. It doesn't ruin the scene for me but it does not make it as good as it can be. The attention to detail in this film made it more enjoyable.

One key aspect of statistics is randomly sampling, this poll has bias for sure. It is still interesting to see what HNers make with respect to where the live. It would also be interesting to see salary data compared to hours worked per week and self-employed or not.

I'd like to see this data over a longer time period. Or compared to a similar time span around the Great Depression. Similarly, I'd like to see data on a global scale. I'd imagine the gap is continuously widening. Markets constantly shift, this may be a second re-adjustment from the dot.com bubble, just the "99 percent" are adjusting as the 1% goes the other way.

I would hope that it applies to everyone or the law would be miss a portion of the illegal activity they are attempting to capture. Criminals will probably still operate in cash and those that are law-abiding now have to go through the hassle of documentation.

Yes, Watson had a major advantage at buzzing in but he was also capable of understanding or computing the questions. This is significant as the questions on Jeopardy aren't simply x + y = z but contain the complexities of the English language.

This is the exact sort of "tax loophole" that should be put to an end. I almost wish someone pushed back by proposing a raise in taxes for such behavior, and maybe next time these big companies would think twice before they tried to avoid paying taxes that everyone else does.

Trees have been attempting to capture the suns energy for a long time and I'd like to see a comparison to other plants efficiency at capturing energy. Nature is powerful.

Those children that are allowed to play video games or watch t.v. on end in my opinion are those that are most likely to end up in a poorer situation because there is little parenting done.

Is this not similar to how some media report about an event and include a tweet that has been since deleted. This just being done on a much broader scale.

I am currently a university student, and last semester I took an international economics course. As most first lectures go I expected to sit down and listen to the professor tell us what we would be learning throughout the year and what books to buy. But this was quite different, I and many other students in the class experienced a wide range of emotions from panic to excitement. This was a peer based learning course (Myself and the majority of the class did not know this and several people went on their computers and changed courses), for those of you who do not know peer based learning involves students basically teaching themselves the material and then teaching their peers their findings. This was the best course I have yet to take, I learned not only a lot about international economics but how to better my ability at teaching myself what I need to know. In this course we were given three problems throughout the term that we were to be solved in groups, the problems themselves were very vague and indirect yet through researching and presenting our findings in small groups and then in individually completed essays we became knowledgeable in international economics. A bit more on topic was the fact that our essays were to be written individually (and submitted through turnitin) yet all of our research was done in a group setting. This furthered my ability to take information from various sources (mainly the internet) and formulate my own opinion and use proper citation where needed. For me this style of learning was very awkward at first but the reward for sticking with it was great.

Another course I took that term was statistics for economics, for some of the assignments the data used for the questions were chosen by the students themselves (limited to a specific time frame to prevent plagiarism). In the end I think the professor and TAs only checked our formulas rather than our answers because of the time it would have taken to find the correct solution for each problem but this is an interesting way to combat plagiarism.

As a student at the University of Waterloo taking the bus is standard. You are able to text the bus stop number to the bus company number and then it replies with when the next 3 (ish) buses are coming. I wish you were able to find out more information then just when the next few buses are coming like when is a bus coming at 4 o'clock, or some real time data about buses running late. No smartphone is required which is a bonus as it is for public transit, and on a side note I like that you can text Google and get search results texted back to you.

I love the potential for facial recognition in the future as long as their are no privacy issues and the public welcomes it without fears over privacy.

Here is my futuristic view of how this can be used, you walk into a Starbucks, it recognizes you, even if this is your first time entering this specific Starbucks, and you say the usual. Your coffee is ordered knowing your 'usual' at Starbucks. Your identity is already confirmed so payment is a breeze, perhaps a pin for extra security. Just a funky idea of what I could see sometime from now.

I like the new look. I've always liked a darker screen while watching a video especially for long periods of time. I also like the wide variety of sizes you can change the video screen too. I do however wish there was a fit to screen option as I often like to watch a video while working on another part of my screen. Perhaps a screen dimmer that darkens all but the video.

It seems like scanning the items is a nice feature but not needed, especially if you need to go to one of these scanning stations to order your food. If there isn't a way to order directly from your phone regardless of location there should be. Perhaps a bit more then most online stores providing a more realistic way to purchase your food. When I read the title I interpreted as an online virtual store. A more basic view of the products with a searchable feature should also be an option. When you go shopping you most often buy the same things week in and week out (milk, bread, etc) it would be pretty awesome to set-up a rotating weekly schedule. If entire communities used this the cost of delivery would be offset by the costs of maintaining a physical store.
