Certainly if you want to denigrate someone and you bring up their gender or ethnicity, it can be sexist or racist.

Regardless of the intention, they ARE both chinese. So is it really a stretch to see a racist element to this nick name? It is racist by default. I'm not saying that it is a greatly offensive nickname or even unfunny, but for someone to call it racist is not at all a stretch.

The problem is definitely not the store. The problem is that people are trained by starbucks to treat all cafes like this. His cafe, instantly to me, suggests that it's NOT okay to camp out with my laptop all day there.

what they're doing is making up a new hypothetical continent consisting of the US, China, Europe, India, Japan and comparing that to Africa.

I think it works to show how big Africa is.

But yes, if you compare countries, you can take comparisons further, and it would be more practical.

To be on the same tier of racism as the United States, Japan has to start lynching its minorities.

Are you also a minority in the US? Did you live in different areas in the US? Were you physically attacked because of your race or sexual orientation in Japan?

why even bother with someone who claims they've never seen research that proves discrimination in tech? That there's no discrimination against blacks who want to open up small businesses? Or claims that no one wants to diversify nursing? Less than a minute on google and I've found research that concludes there is discrimination in tech, that blacks face discrimination from banks when starting small businesses, and a handful of articles about diversity in nursing just on the first page of google results for that topic.

it is hard to imagine right now, but if you made cars completely illegal except for maybe emergency vehicles, i do believe that we would see a lot of creative solutions pop up for transporting bulk items or large items like furniture.

Well if, like you say, all koreans believe that a fan "chops up" air molecules (maybe they all believe the blades of fans chop up CO2 into CO) then they really need to be criticized. I agree with you that its an absolute shock that they believe this. It is definitely one of the crazier beliefs a modernized population can have, and I admit that I believe a staff can be turned into a snake.

you make a good point. And I also certainly would not be afraid of ghosts in an old house. I would be afraid of the unknown and unfamiliar places.

but at the same time, what is interesting to me, is that most of us can get scared by horror films or movies about ghosts. so if you get scared by a ghost in a movie, could that mean you believe, at least for a moment, in ghosts? or would it simply mean that IF ghosts existed, you would be afraid of them.

It did make my job easier. But so did the overall politeness in the culture. That's part of being gullible. It's that a large part of it is associated with politeness and willing to hear someone out.

I feel for you. As a Mormon who has been on missions to Korea, I can without a doubt say they are the most gullible people on the planet. They believe in some crazy stuff.
