There are sooo many factors about this that its hard to make a point that covers everything, and its had to stay partial when explaining your point. From reading the comments etc and various reports about SOPA, it seems everyone is going on about the music companies rather than the artists they represent. IMO the music companies are the ones who have been making the money off of someone else's talent for a long time now, perhaps taking more than their fair share. Do I feel sorry for the profit driven record labels? No I don’t. Its no coincidence that all of the richest artists in the world are the ones who have built their own record labels and cut out the middle man, and hats off to them, the ones with the talent are the ones who should make the biggest share. With the opening of apple's itunes it gave (even the smallest) artists the chance of putting their content on the internet to buy, without having to necessarily deal with the companies who have have been making millions/billions off them for years.. Several artists (and i would go as far as saying most) have now accepted that downloading music is the new norm and itunes is the way to keep the money coming in, whilst also being able to appeal to the masses. When you read (https://torrentfreak.com/swiss-govt-downloading-movies-and-m... take into account that alot of music artists have actually uploaded their own albums to torrent sites prior to release to gain attention, it would seem the artists know exactly how to play the market. I can truthfully say I have been to many gigs I wouldn’t have known about etc had I not downloaded the artists albums, I have also bought merchandise as a result of this.

then you read something like https://torrentfreak.com/retired-computerless-woman-fined-fo... , and realise this is what would happen if the music companies had their way. Profit at any costs, even when it cant even be proven that any crime has been breached.

At the end of the day I see the music companies fighting a losing battle (the megalupload takedown certainly didnt help), the musicians still "making it rich" and the consumers who buy music STILL buying music, though direct from the musician, thats why the companies are trying to have this act passed.

whats to say it wont rise in value in years to come? Most people who buy apple products etc do indeed feel closely connected to the comapny (regardless if they are infact or not). Definately something I wouldnt be spending that amount of money on but each to their own....but then I dont have that sort of money to throw about

Yeh without Jobs Excessive attention to details I doubt many of the products of recent would be as well recieved by the customers are they were.

In YOUR opinion. I doubt those involved would agree.....if Woz was left to what he wanted to do he would have been giving away products......

All were equally important in starting the company.....

It really all depends on what your trying to do yourself. Im not naive enough to think Apple would have worked without BOTH Woz and Jobs. Every company needs an innovator/inventor, but then what good are they if they have no clout with regards to how to get the product to market, or what exact product the consumers would want? Thus the title is completely incorrect.

The company would not be what it is today if either of them had went solo, FACT.

These constant articles/opinions etc regarding Jobs are now getting pretty tiresome. Love him or hate him, he was amazing at what HE done.

cant remember the exact amount, but im pretty sure he had 300+ patents......I think he has a bit more imput into the above items than your aware of.....

The reason this should be done as it is the law, pure and simple. I, by law, have the right to know what information/data a company holds on me. If they wish to collect data in the first place, and are a reputable company, they should be well aware of the "obligations" they have before then even start collecting it.......Why do they want my information? What do they plan on doing with it? Could it then end up in the hands of anyone who could do with it as they please?

Much the same way i wouldnt want to be contacted/emailed/telephoned/written to by companies i have in no way solicited to contact me....

I think it shows how dedicated he was to his own cause, to create great products for those who followed apple. Do I think he done it for the money? Definitely not. As pointed out already he could have retired a rich man when he first left apple, instead he went onto to create next & pixar and eventually took apple from being what they were to one of the biggest companies in the world. Despite the fact he was a billionaire he lived rather modestly and never rested on his laurels.

The only thing I could say he gave in charity was his time, I know that after diagnosed with cancer the last thing I would have done is keep working, especially if i was in the same financial bracket as him. Regardless tho he worked on until the day he died, that alone gets my respect regardless of the great things he done prior to his death......RIP

Point taken. They are still collected data they had no right collecting.....also the people who they collected data on were not informed until the german government investigated the matter (which is a breach of the law)

Why would a country change their laws to suit a company? (not even from Europe)? When Europeans go to america do they not have to follow the laws of that land?

As a European I feel that I should have access to any information a company holds on me.....both MORALLY and legally...

I think there’s a few points here and although some replies have very valid points others completely stray from the issues that "Europe vs facebook" is making.

1. Facebook has bases, and operates, in Europe. Thus they MUST abide by our data laws. This means that, under our European laws they MUST supply ALL information they have on people. Currently this is not being done and as such they are breaking the law by not providing ALL information they hold on people. If they want to have HQ's in Europe and want Europeans to use their service they must abide by our laws, this is regardless if we as a user decide to sign up or not. These laws cannot at anytime be waived REGARDLESS if it is indeed us as Europeans deciding to use their service.

2. Quite simply, if they offer the option of "deleting" posts/likes/mails, then they should do just that, delete it. Anything other than this and they are quite blatantly misleading users.

3. They SHOULD NOT be gathering information on ANYONE who does not use their service. This is not legal and should not be allowed to happen. The old saying "knowledge is power" comes to mind, but these "big corporations" should not be able to gather data on people who have no connection what-so-ever to their company/services. Britain recently has been rocked by such scandals as phone hack etc aswell as the big argument about Google cars collecting data from wireless networks that they were not authorised to do so from. Is facebook gather information on people who have no connection to them any different from hacking someone’s phone and listening to their messages? Or any different from a Google car passing your home and gathering information for your wireless network? My opinion is that it isnt any different. New of the world have had to pay out massive amount of compensation to the people who could prove that their phones were hacked. It is a breach of privacy and more importantly, THE LAW. Google also had to agree to delete all information gathered by its Google cars as this was deemed to be illegally collected.

Facebook should be made to adhere to our laws if they wish to be present in our countries. Thus they should be made to supply ALL information held on people who make subject access requests, they should delete all e mails/post/likes that have been deleted by the original (or any recipicants) and should also delete ALL information they have gained about people who no longer/have never used their service.

I joined facebook when it first came out as would say i was pretty young and naive, I didnt read all the agreements etc and certainly didn’t know what I was signing myself up for (alot of which has not came out until recently). If facebook want to use the argument that everyone who signs up agree to their t&c then they should respect the fact that only peoples over the age of 18 should be allowed to join in Europe. (this is currently not the case with children as young as 8 and their pet dogs having profiles)....

Facebook cant have it all their own way and must respect the laws of the land, PERIOD.

without a doubt. Considering his "blue box" selling start up I dont think theres any doubt he would have hacked the iphone....The irony of his stance on jailbreaking was amusing to say the least, complete 360 turn.

possibly because it take more juice to run the new chip?
