I’m a big fan of the interior & Ive design (and am not always a fan if his). The exterior is pretty cool from the front and back … but from the side and at angles it just doesn’t register as Ferrari at ALL. Seems to scream for a longer wheelbase but that’s not the whole issue. It just looks very mid-market from those angles.

It’s 4 years old; I don’t know if this JWST finding changes anything. I do know we have finally found some (one?) intermediate-mass black holes in the interim, but I don’t know if that changes it either.

the backstroke rule change was circa 1988. They changed butterfly (and I suppose freestyle) after the 96 Olympics when Dennis Pankratov won both butterflies with this technique. Interestingly, the backstroke innovator who probably triggered the earlier rule change got beat in the final by someone not using it (Berkhoff in 88, silver)

The latest rule change in this area was banning dolphin kicks on your back on the breast-to-free exchange in IM. Ryan Lochte triggered that one.

The benefit of AI as a feature in calorie counting apps is great. But you have to track stuff manually for a while to realize the benefit. Specifically: using AI for restaurant meals is a convenient starting point, from which you use your hard-won feel for weight & caloric density of things to tweak the first pass to something closer to the mark.

As of now I would not at all trust a fully AI calorie counting app

Most Senators are not well known nationally (sadly) unless they’ve either:

I had a similar experience watching Mr. Robot. There’s a scene where it shifts to first person PoV and the voiceover says something like “am I seeing this? Is this real?” … and it was EXACTLY the PoV I had every day walking out of my office on 36th st back then.

A dashboard is mostly a saved bunch of queries with a visual-aid in interpretting them.

Staleness, which Majors alludes to, is one problem.

The visuals being a poor aid to interpretability is another.

Usually these problems are coexisting & compounding: there’s too many charts here, half of them are out of date, half I don’t know how to make sense of them, and I’m not sure which half is which.

It would be interesting to revisit some of these problems in the AI era, because often the missing layer is a guide & runbook (which maybe an agent could do) that’s better than “page everyone who might know why this chart looks bad”

Reminds me of another fun dashboard question which is like “how many different ‘single source of truth’s does your company have and how many are true?”

It’s mostly a light criticism of the Honeycomb perspective. All the value is presumably in the outbound links to thinking about dashboards that the author laments is being ignored.

Had to click through and look, he looks great IMO. There are people who look odd at a sub 15% bf at any age but he isn’t one, to my eye. He does have a bit of the TRT look but not extreme.

Edit after actually reading: the article is a compelling analysis & critique. While I think he looks good physique-wise, even bodybuilders would say it’s grueling & suboptimal for health & performance to stay very lean all the time. I thought he looked lean but not to that point where the body rebels; the markers seem to say otherwise
