Ryanair don’t charge you 55 euros, at least not from what I’m reading [1]. It’s completely free, at the airport, provided you’ve checked in already, which from my experience can be done up to 24 hours prior to your flight. Plenty of time to use a hotel computer, someone else’s device or find an internet cafe if you aren’t completely disorganised.

I’m not sure about Wizz Air, I’ve never flown with them and their website isn’t quite as clear as Ryanairs.

I genuinely believe there's an xkcd for everything. I was only reading about the creator, Randall Munroe a few days ago and he's clearly very talented.

I got this for my mother and she loves it, but it’s bloody hard some days! Great bit of kit though for any puzzle lovers.

Helldivers 2 was exceptional for this in my experience - I met some great people from matchmaking, both when I was playing with IRL friends and solo. I know it’s only a video game but it truly felt like a proper bonding experience when you were trying to save the last of your team, or when you harmonised in such a way it just felt tactically perfect.

I need to hop back on that game.

In my first job I raised JIRA-1337 and was pretty chuffed with myself, being on a team of young, nerdy gamer type folk. My manager not so much, they wanted to raise it (for a meme?) but I was doing actual work rather than watching numbers go up so that was quite satisfying when it was a genuine defect.

People are prosecuted for this with zero evidence other than an ‘admission’, with the admission being as nebulous as ‘yeah the tv is on’.

How can you prove someone was watching TV in court? As far as I’m aware you can’t, but the court sides with Capita generally. Please don’t bring up the TV detecting vans as evidence.

That’s got me thinking, who controls that? Do the BBC willingly employ Capita to enforce the licence, or are they mandated to enforce it in some way and Capita just so happen to be the vultures that were cheapest to hire?

This is my theory. My relatives wouldn’t have a clue whether they were lying about being some official inspector and saying they’re allowed to inspect, and they would probably be scared of either an official looking, or bailiff looking person telling them this.

It’s not really a topic of conversation that I’d bring up, but I know many people who do pay it so you aren’t the only one.

I don’t because I don’t use anything that requires me to, not from a moral standpoint. The BBC has given me a lot of fantastic content over the years but I’ve just stopped consuming most television over the past 5 years or so.

I doubt Capita would have any fallout from an inquiry, it would be another headline for a day or two then get forgotten by the media. I’m all for it though, they should be held accountable, my first statement is purely cynicism from me.

Anecdotal, but out of my family I’m the only man who doesn’t pay the licence fee, and the only person who hasn’t had a visit.

They’ve visited my mother, sister and one auntie that don’t pay - they all live alone and are the sole name on the bill.

I’ve heard from friends similar experiences too, single men and households with men on the electoral register don’t get visits, or very rarely if they do.

I had the pleasure of answering the door at my mothers to one of these people and believe there’s an issue with the way they choose who to investigate. It’s predatory.

For what it’s worth Mongolians call Westerners ‘coloured eyes’ - I wouldn’t immediately consider ‘round eyes’ having racist intent.

as soon as an IP address is logged as having visited the trap URL (honeypot, or zipbomb or whatever), a log monitoring script bans that client.

Is this not why they aren’t getting the full file?

Always had time to support and mentor people with his incredible skills, would be online at 4am doing out of hours deployments with us, and inevitably get us out of the shit when something went wrong. I was frequently in awe of his technical capability and ability to come up with a solution for… anything!

On the human side, he was compassionate, deeply cared for his employees (and let us put our lives before work), and a genuinely fun, cool guy you wanted to know, wanted to get on a call with or play some games after work - I’m sat in the sun typing this while wearing a t-shirt he custom made for me.

I don’t think any large screen manufacturer would give a second thought to this, the average consumer will still want the 4K, HDR, flat screen that is wall mountable.

The market the CRTs would steal is practically non existent, surely. I’d love this in my house for retro gaming purposes, but I’d still have my LG C/Gx or Samsung N95x or whatever the newest, fanciest models are for movies and modern use cases.

For the majority of my childhood and teenage years the door was never locked. I don’t think it’s a British thing to leave your keys on the seat, but they were always in the hallway, right next to the unlocked door (like everyone else I knew).

I’m trying to think of the point this changed, and I can’t, but I would guess around 2008-2010 or so.

I read it as they have a powerful enough machine to generate weekend material that doesn’t seem to degrade in user experience or satisfaction (i.e get boring over time) which you may experience when enjoying ‘normal’ weekend activities.

I came across this interesting 'bingo sheet' style website for tonights UK General Election and wanted to share it, results will be coming in throughout the night and I'm somewhat unsure whether they're hitting an API to update this, or just working tirelessly.

I'm not aware of a centralised data source for the election results, other than individual constituencies reporting the results themselves - the API docs for the electoral commission doesn't have related endpoints.

Note: I have no political affiliation, but this looks to be an unusually one sided election. Please don't turn this into some debate, it's just a website.

This might be a silly question, but how does this even happen?

I would have thought they’d finalise the game, get a ‘master’ of sorts and then send it to a mass production facility - how would the deleted archive end up on the master? Did they accidentally copy it over, then remove it before shipping?

In England we definitely use wood in pretty much all houses. The roof trusses, the partition walls, the floorboards, beams to hold the ceiling/upstairs, fixtures (kitchen and bathroom fitted cabinets), doors etc.

I would guess the person you’re responding to doesn’t mean the hidden bits, as I’ve spent time in Spain and definitely come across wood in new buildings.

A potential reason for less obvious wood, Spain has less requirement for insulation than the UK and would benefit from slimmer walled, brick/concrete houses with no wooden partitions holding insulation for cooler temperatures during their peak heat.

It seems like a pretty basic breakdown, imo. I don’t know much about Flutter or Kotlin but I was expecting a lot more detail in an article hitting the front page.

I wish them the best with their product, and hope it improves, but I don’t think it’s worth it right now if you expect to get a really good tool - it’s a gimmicky, early days product from what I gather.

As someone who hits the road most days, whether in a car or on a motorbike it’s absolutely crazy to witness the state of affairs going on on the roads.

My uncle, who isn’t far off 80, but very fit and healthy has given his licence up this year after some pressure from family - I’ve been in the car with him driving and he isn’t safe, he can drive for sure, but he isn’t fast enough to respond to a bad move by others, nor if there is an accident ahead.

I’ll be personally removing my mother’s car when she is unfit to use it too. I don’t care what it costs in taxis or public transport, I don’t want her risking someone else’s life, nor her own, over the ability to get up and go immediately, rather than wait 10 minutes for a driver.

I’m grateful that they are willing to accept this and agree, I’d like to think my mother has another 10 years or so in her at this stage, but the moment it’s clear she’s not fit, that vehicle is gone.

Edit: reminds me of my neighbour who dropped his motorbike because a car pulled out on him from a fuel station. I asked how fast he was going, he said with absolute conviction he was doing no more than 5mph.

When I told him that was too fast he couldn’t wrap his head around it.

I think that also sounds pretty scary. Seeing the state of drivers in the UK, without knowing what they’re under the influence of, if anything, it’s a pretty damning sight.

There is probably some form of bias here, as I don’t remember all of the good drivers, but not a day goes by where I don’t see drivers wandering into other lanes, performing dangerous undertakes, lane changes, or generally being terrible drivers, and you have to wonder why.

A lot of phone drivers, for sure, a lot of ignorant pricks too, but I’d bet on a lot of inebriated drivers given their conduct.

Example of a shocker I had today, I was turning right out of a resi street, a car with no indication stopped to let me out on my right, but it wasn’t safe (very tight, little visibility) so I waved him along. I stayed there for appx 30 seconds until I realised he wanted to turn into the street I was pulling out of. He didn’t indicate once. Just a completely wild disregard for any form of road etiquette, not to mention the Highway Code.

I’ll report it from my dashcam, but I doubt anything will be done by my local police force.

I think we need far more stringent fines and forced retests (along with removal of licence if they can’t meet the standard of a learner) for anyone committing a road traffic offence or blatantly breaching the Highway Code out of sheer ignorance.
