In the UK there is no such thing as a small claims court. A small claim is lodged in a county court. Easily done online.

Maybe not the best place to ask, but how to people organise their Pandas research? Are there any useful methods?

Law and application seem to differ/lag somewhat. Each influences the other. It’s worth being aware that neither fully determines the other, and that each evolves in parallel. We live in an organic world where things are not as well defined and predictable as the typical programmer might wish. To thrive, one must dirty oneself in the actual code, rather than get bogged down in the terminology of the man page.

You are right. Such demands are written in a contract. You either sign or not.

The Sir John Soane's museum, my favourite museum in London, houses the Sarcophagus of King Seti I. The guy who took it from Egypt, Giovanni Belzoni, engraved his signature on it.

I learnt a good bit of C++ by going through Elements of Programming Interviews, trawling through cppreference.com and getting help from #C++ on FreeNode for the difficult parts. Coming from mainly functional languages, I actually found it quite fun going through cppreference.com and seeing all the interesting ways in which C++ does things. Especially the STL.

Pick an interesting project and continue in that vein. The biggest difficulty for me was understanding the memory model and all the different types of value, references and so on, but #C++ was again a brilliant resource for smart pointers to good articles on the difficult subjects.

Professional C++ programmers might have other opinions on how best to learn.

The article’s a bit of a troll piece, so I’m going to ignore it. One of my favourite pastimes in London was picking somewhere on the map I’d never been and just walking there. Sometimes just the centre of a borough I hadn’t been to before. Sometimes more than 10 miles in one go. Canal routes, hidden pathways, a new park, busy high streets. Lots of time to think or just watch.

I’ve been doing quite a bit of walking in Istanbul recently, but I’m running out of options. Maybe someone can suggest some interesting, out of the ordinary routes.

What's the simplest plugin I can use on Firefox that prevents me from seeing posts from chosen domains such as this on HN? It is clear that the risk of my losing out on a good post from domains such as this is minimal. I got excellent results from blocking comments on YouTube, as there is statistically negative benefit in reading them, and I am now hoping for similar results on HN.

Quite refreshing to read. My first job out of university was at a start-up bank whose first version was, would you believe, built on PHP+MySQL. This disgusted my functional purist build beautiful abstractions wanker self at the time, and I distinctly remember feeling that PHP was below me.

They are still running and handling people’s money.

How is Lie theory relevant to robotics and optimisation? I looked into Weyl groups a bit during my undergrad, but didn't really go into Lie theory in much depth.

Maybe due to stdio synchronisation? This can be turned off.
