In my case, they took so long to announce the iPhone 12 Mini that I gave up waiting and bought an SE even though it was slower than I wanted and had a poor camera. That link is about E-85. E-85 is 85% ethanol (actually 60%-85% depending on the season and the gas station). Ethanol has 30% less energy density than pure gasoline, so E-85 has 0.3*0.85=0.255 less energy density than pure gasoline. That is why E-85 gets 25% lower gas mileage.
"Standard" E-10 gasoline contains between 0% and 10% ethanol. E-15 is 15% ethanol. So E-15 has at most 4.5% less energy density than standard gasoline. You would not see a 25% decrease in gas mileage between standard gas and E-15.

Dividends are the main source of value from stock in a company that doesn't plan to sell. But dividends are also determined by the board. In a closely-held company, the majority owners may also be the board, and they may prefer to leave the profits in the company or take them out a different way.
"Worthless" is an extreme characterization, but the value you receive from owning a minority amount of private stock is much less predictable and controllable than publicly-traded stock.

A new study of 185 COVID patients found that 90% of the subjects were still seropositive for neutralizing antibodies at the 6 to 8 month time points. I'm a director of engineering with tech leads/engineering managers who are considering their career paths carefully. This post was helpful to us. My highlights from this post:
It was interesting to read her reasoning for why a “tour of duty” as a manager should be 2-3 years. That’s a very tight time range, so if she’s right then that increases the stakes for making good decisions along the way.
There is a tension between her point that management is painful and engineers shouldn’t pursue it long-term (and in the comments said that she doesn’t know many engineers who are happy doing it) but and her point that if managers earn more than engineers it becomes harder to move back to engineering. The increased salary for managers is at least partially a result of the fact that many people wouldn’t become managers otherwise.
My favorite piece of advice was “stop writing code in the critical path”. Someone told me that when I first started moving into management, and it was very helpful.
I have not read this particular book yet, but everything I've read by Drucker has been thoroughly researched, well analyzed, and carefully written. Reading his books has taught me a lot about management, and has made me a better thinker.
Many management books are not worth the time it takes to read them. But in my opinion, Drucker is always worth the investment even if he turns out to be wrong about a particular topic.
Relative to its clock speed, the Pentium III had a lot of cache, good memory bandwidth, and low memory latency. And back then, disk IO was extremely slow. These two facts meant that common workloads were more often constrained on CPU cycles or disk IO, rather than RAM access.
I have a suggestion: add support for dual-clip lanyards[1]. I've always found the single-clip lanyards annoying: they flop around and get twisted. I went to a conference this spring that had lanyards that clipped to both top corners of the badge, and it was significantly less annoying.

Yes. Because the scope is so broad and the purpose is investing in our relationship, my directs often have so much to talk about that we have topics still untouched at the end of 30 minutes. This is universal across my whole team: extroverts and introverts, junior and senior.
Sometimes they don’t have much to talk about. Then I’ll give extra feedback or talk strategy. Less than 5% of my 1:1’s end early.
It wasn’t always like this. We had to build trust and get in the habit of talking. Some new people think it’s weird for a month or two but I’ve never had anyone say it was a waste of time after that.
I do weekly half-hour 1:1’s with all my direct reports. Each one is pre-scheduled for the same time every week. I almost never cancel, although I do reschedule sometimes.
The first half is for whatever they want to talk about (work status, planning, career guidance, personal stuff, anything they want). The second half is for my list: usually tactical work stuff, but I step back and ask about their overall feelings and professional goals about once per month.
It’s a useful tool for coordinating work, and it has the nice side effect of redicing interruptions because most things can wait a few days until our 1:1. But the primary reason I do them so often is to build stronger relationships. I know my people very well, and they know me. Spending so much time together builds a lot of trust, which is extremely valuable.

I am not sure why they failed but more recent attempts seem to be succeeding. My two current theories are: 1. They were ahead of their time. There weren't enough people shopping on the Internet to sustain them back then. 2. They were killed by structural obstacles that may also kill the new versions.

Dailies are more comfortable because they are softer and more porous. That lets more oxygen through and reduces irritation. But it also makes them less resistant to scratches and tears. That's why the manufacturers say you shouldn't clean and reuse them.
