Node People vs. Edge People

yikes. this is very out of touch with current trends.

i respect writing a book - ive written three, but if there’s a time when most tech leadership cared LESS about understanding software team psychology, i havent seen it.

truly a sad state of things. i love this topic and plan to read the book but i dont expect most people to care - the only mantra in software rn is to go as fast as possible on shitty features and burn people out.

of course above assessment is about the general state of big tech co’s. some pockets of sanity out there still at smaller companies but not many!

Is this a flex now?

As always, I don't really care what tools a creative uses to manifest their idea in the world, I care how good the product is.

AI, just like the coding language you choose is a TOOL. Tools can be wielded expertly or crudely. At the end of the day your customer doesn't care who you are they care about your product.

There's nothing of substance here.

What is a CEO-Philosopher?

It's clear the author has NO IDEA what Palantir is actually building.

This is both horrible and not at all surprising.

Every quarter there are more layoffs and we're told how AI will replace us and that we can do nothing to stop it. We cannot afford the simple things our parents were able to and are supposed to be grateful that we are living in a time with such "amazing" technological progress.

Sam is one of the most media-visible people that represents AI replacement of average people's livelihood (not agreeing with this stance but yes, outside of the Hacker News SF-tech matcha latte bubble, this is a commonly held thought) which makes this unsurprising.

Still horrible and not right.

I'll plug my own content as a response to Ed. I have worked in engineering for a while now. I did code and continue to. How a PR guy has become the face of this story is beyond me https://youtu.be/cJYAK6csXso

FWIW I have been trying to interview Ed about this for ages but he has ignored all of our requests.

Correct on all points! Very well put - you sound like an excellent manager.

As always the difficulty is in getting people outside your team to realize that the 60% cheerleading bit is crucial, many will see this as a waste of time that doesn't create "business value", as if the only business value was measured in lines of code.

Noticed when my CC session got booted this morning. Trying to log back in takes me to the web auth page. Clicking Authorize doesn't do anything until much later at which point it says you're good to go but CC reports a 500 error.

That sucks but it’s pretty much always been like this as technology advances. You can either fight the tide or go with it like Warhol did. He pivoted to doing more photographs later in his career because it was easier to make more art.

Art != business. They are separate things and only heartbreak will ensue when you operate on the assumption that artistic values is business value.
