I've been wondering about this for quite a while now. Why does everybody automatically assume that I'm using the decimal system when saying "orders of magnitude"?!

Why should we expect/demand more generosity from only 1% of the population? Maybe everyone should spend 1% of their wealth on these efforts? It’s easy to be magnanimous with someone else’s wallet.

I was mainly referring to the "super rich" (Musk, Bezos, etc.) since this topic was about how SpaceX treats people and because "multi-planetary civilization" is primarily a thing I connect with their companies. I do donate ~10% of my income. Not sure how much the average FAANG-CEO does donate.

If there’s a government anywhere that isn’t providing this for its citizens, perhaps looking into why that government is such a failure would yield greater and more durable change than a point patch of just a few vaccines.

Failed States and Corruption do exist. They have various complicated reasons which to address would certainly not be "a low-hanging fruit". Of course, solving these would be a good thing, but not within the scope of "donate food, donate medicine, pay teachers"

I can recommend the other way round:

For un-bricking my phone, I had to use some proprietary windows-only software. So I took an old Laptop and installed Windows 10.

Installing it was such a pain already. So many dark patterns, so many privacy issues. I even had to create a microsoft account!

After the deed was done, I closed the Laprop, went back to my Linux system and enjoyed it even more :-)

you know what would save lives?

If the top 1% would spend 1% of their wealth on preventing "low-hanging fruits" like

  * children starving
  * children dying from diseases whose vaccinations cost 1$
  * educating people on things like STDs, etc

well, it has a lot to do with people growing up during cold war and german reunification.

There were many stories where people lost faith in politics (e.g. after Chernobyl), so people gathered together to do stuff on their own. I think being "social" (to all people), decentralized and mistrusting authorities is just a left thing. so that's just a natural thing imho

the issue were the 100s of tracking cookies and that websites would use dark patterns or simply not offer a "no to all" button at all (which is against the law, btw.)

I really love newpipe[1]. No ads, continue playing with screen switched off, download option, and i appreciate the lack of recommendations (This way I only see news from the channels I'm subscribed to and don't get drawn into a recommendation-loop).

I'm not sure what will happen to it once google enforces their developer registration thing [2]. I assume that f-droid and newpipe will still work on rooted phones, but in general I don't like the direction in which this is going...

It's a fun little project and I appreciate the effort you put in, but I found it hard to "consume".

As already written, the text takes too long to show up. Why not have a mouse-over and show a full block of text?

I think it would have been great, if the effort went into something more "useful", like improving/cleaning up something like Sheldon Brown's collection, which is already great.

Furthermore, so many things are missing and unclear

- you seem to show only a ahead stem. I'm missing the spacers.

- you're missing the Dunlop valve and the new Schwalbe Click Valve

- your selection/explanation of wheel sizes also leaves much to be desired. Having someone finally explain the ETRTO sizings to me ( and that both 28" and 29" wheels use 622mm rims ) was eye-opening
