I work in one now. Somebody decided to write and maintain our own control suite and JS framework.
Two bald men fighting over a comb
I chuckled there for a minute
For the author, their system served as a way of dealing with anxiety over self-improvement, it seems.
"Capture what resonates.." is my take away from reading "Building a Second Brain" by Tiago Forte
if I'm consciously looking something that resonates with me for everything that I consume, i'd be anxious too.
As a non native English speaker, this would be a compliment.
NAND gates, flip-flops and I/O schedulers, and networks? No problem.
That's kind of a weird flex.
..not sure I want to ask my kids for help...
I shiver at the thought.
Culturally, as a Filipino kid, everyone knows that kids are indebted to the parents for them being born. Wtf.
I do help my parents because I love them, they dont ask but they don't need to.
But I will not ask help from my kids, they dont owe me anything.
We live in the UK now, but my wife and I will just have to retire to the Philippines where everything is a whole lot cheaper.
This made me chuckle a bit. Here, take my upvote.
Maybe thru luck, they're gonna uncover another xz utils backdoor MS version, but its probably gonna get covered up because, Microsoft
Isn't Chrome OS a better fit for his description?
...cites cost, security, and digital sovereignty...
With the recent XZ Utils backdoor fiasco, I would really think twice with this decision.
Might be worth sticking to MS for a little bit longer, who knows if the backdoor code has been reused somewhere else? Besides, wasnt it a MS employee who uncovered this backdoor?
This is what got me interested in this gig in the first place. I am still yet to create something the world will react to, but whatever, I am enjoying the journey anyways
give a shit.
This is probably the best advice I heard in a while.
On a slightly different note this is easier said than done specially if you have suspected adhd and live in the UK where you have to wait years before getting proper treatment.
If you are fine with search and replace to refactor your code then ok.
IBM and Accenture in the Philippines.
Big fan of Sanderson here.
Also love how fellow devs such as Andy Weir and Ernest Cline (Ready Player One) are coming up with great novels.
Good for you. Now did you check what postman does?
Thanks. I thought it was just me.
Congrats. I hope you become more successful.
Love from the Philippines.

This is funny. What was the tst about?

18 yrs doing this and I feel exactly the same way. I just love building things on my free time even if i know some of them won't make it out of my dev environment simply because i work too slow. I guess to me, the discovery process (in building something new) is so much fun than say, playing video games.
Boss: why did it take you 2 days to integrate lib-foo when it should have only taken hours? Me:
Stop killing our trees! Just kidding, you do you.
I switched over to eReader Prestigio because of TTS feature. When I go running or do some mindless task I use TTS and put the fone in my pocket and still absorb information.
I use eReader Pretigio (android) for this. As of this writing they let you use installed tts engine.
3 months on Corne and Colemak. Dont attempt if you just started a new job, dont ask me how I know.
The only benefit for me is I started to appreciate keyboard macros (built in/QMK, or AHK), IDE custom snippets, and gaming mouse macros (navigation mainly eg: goto implementation/definition, booarks, etc).
It made me a slightly better dev because I now take advantage of these features
