I just can't understand who in their right mind, and is even remotely concerned about the privacy of their personal information, would upload their own DNA to a business. An internet-based one at that. Lemmings, I tell ya.

Same here. I specifically remember staying home "sick" from school just so I could transfer those COMPUTE! programs from paper to screen and eventually to cassette tape! Still have the entire setup except for the 13" Montgomery Ward TV it was connected to. I owe my entire tech career to my parents buying me that little TI from Shopko in 1983.

Brought back frightening memories of running a 10BASE2 network on LANtastic. Any one bad connection and the whole network came down. So much fun to troubleshoot.

I remember my dad building the depth-finder/fish-finder. We always had it in the boat with us. Who knows if it ever really helped us find fish, but we sure had fun with it.

Side note - I really miss that you can barely buy RC car "kits" anymore. Everything now comes RTR (ready-to-run). And that takes most of the fun out of it, for me at least.

I first started using VueScan around 2000 with a Nikon LS-30 film scanner and hundreds of crappy APS cartridges. I've never had to pay a dime for updates ever since. And they are put out regularly to this day. Hats off to Ed Hamrick for a handy piece of software that just does what it's supposed to do.
