what alternative mechanism would you propose?

seems like if we can't find some consensus on regulation, the best option is to create protective mechanisms, attitudes perhaps, some barriers (through norms?) that keep out the slop.

this is a major risk factor that the LLM providers aren't contending with adequately. from chatbot addiction to the risk of manipulation. there are a lot of "AI Safety" issues that hardly have to do with potential superintelligence.

I think in some sense the opposite could occur, where it democratizes access to becoming a sort of pseudo-junior-software engineer. In the sense that a lot more people are going to be generating code and bespoke little software systems for their own ends and purposes. I could imagine this resulting in a Cambrian Explosion of small software systems. Like @m_ke says, there will be way more software.

Who maintains these systems? Who brings them to the last mile and deploys them? Who gets paid to troubleshoot and debug them when they reach a threshold of complexity that the script-kiddie LLM programmer cannot manage any longer? I think this type of person will definitely have a place in the new LLM-enabled economy. Perhaps this is a niche role, but figuring out how one can take experience as a software engineer and deploy it to help people getting started with LLM code (for pay, ofc) might be an interesting avenue to explore.

I built this tool as a sort of explorer of Claude's inner concept space. Try entering a word or concept, and then use the buttons to explore outwards from there and see the range of associative links and connections you can uncover.

It seems impossible to imagine OpenAI employees even considering standing in support of the decision to remove Sam given the opacity of the announcement. Whatever information the board might have ought to come to light.

seems to be working again, for me. except gmail says "Gmail is temporarily unable to access your Contacts. You may experience issues while this persists."

Even in times of low traffic, patrol cars are known to slow down the flow of cars in order to induce congestion. They do it because when there are so many cars on the freeway, it’s safer if the vehicles move along slowly.

It seems that with our current infrastructure, even if we could reduce the number of car users it would not be by such a margin that it would become safe enough to not have these “traffic breaks”.
