This is not a new idea -- it's a whole field of infrastructure called "Payments Orchestration". It probably doesn't make sense for small startups, but companies that process more than about $10M+ USD per year can (and do) definitely benefit from multiplexing transactions across multiple providers.

Bitcoin. It can easily be confirmed as valid (zero chance of counterfeit), and is otherwise a bearer instrument with no further settlement, and impossible to reverse (like cash).

The semicolon is doing a lot of heavy lifting in that sentence. That makes your example 5-10-5 words instead of 5-5-5-5. Try using a period instead of semicolon and hear how it sounds.

I think it’s clear that social media (or more broadly, “the internet”), is exacerbating mental health issues. At the very same time, the ability to connect with people around the world is undoubtedly also reducing mental health issues (for some) by building bridges to friendships and social connections they otherwise would not have.

It is a double edged sword. The internet serves to amplify the extremes. At least that is the conclusion I draw.

This depends on the TLD (top level domain) in question.

For .com, .net, .org it has historically not been possible to price discriminate like this.

For the "new TLDs" (the explosion of new extensions we have seen in recent years), the registry contract is different and they are indeed allowed to do this. They call it "premium pricing".

Part of the big outcry about the recent changes to .org is that it brings it closer to the "new TLD" model, which disfavors the registrant.

I would recommend trying to find an internal transfer. That way you don't have to do another round of whiteboard interviews, but you might find a better / more interesting project to work on. Any change of scenery might help.

Registrars need to pay a yearly fee to ICANN (in the $xx,xxx range if I recall correctly) and significant startup fees as well.

This qualifies you to pay 'wholesale' prices for domain names. Wholesale prices are set by the registry. (e.g. Verisign sets the wholesale price for .com, Afilias for .org, etc.)

It is worth doing if you register a very large number of domain names, like 100,000+. Some large corporations have their own registrar, Google for example. (More recently Google has also entered the registry business, with their new TLDs.)

Steiner's esoteric views are hardly a part of the day to day discussion at any Waldorf scool.

I'd like to see police start giving tickets for tailgating instead of speeding. Speeding alone is rarely very dangerous, especially on roads with few other cars.

On the other hand, tailgating is always extremely dangerous, even when the speeds involved are relatively low.

Often times, only the smartest people can reverse engineer and maintain vast amounts of poorly written code.

When code is terrible, it is very difficult to reason about. Hence, you need to be very smart to reason about it, and be successful in modifying it.

I agree. Telerik (and similar) components are great for getting you a lot of functionality straight out of the box, with minimum time and effort.

Where they break down is when you need to make any sort of non-trivial customization or business-specific use case. At that point, it's easier and more maintainable to build things from scratch, or with more loosely coupled base components.

Care to share any great OSS libraries you've found that are good replacements for various Telerik components? Thanks!

This seems interesting, but I am having a hard time parsing all of the government contractor-specific terminology in order to understand what the actual opportunity is here.

Can someone explain this in layman's terms? Let's say I am a regular programmer / consultant, and I can even hire / manage / scale teams of programmers.

I would be happy to submit a working prototype as part of an RFQ process, in exchange for landing a lucrative and stable government contract.

What exactly is being offered here for someone like me?
