I haven't got time to write a better comment, but stopping past to say that I've found Vertical Development the most helpful conceptual framework for my own growth and for making sense of others.

As a mental model, it has applications from very basic to extremely rich and complex.

I've worked as an eng/manager/executive coach and keep discovering new insights.

A (35ish y/o) family friend died 2 months ago from a heart attack, suspected high cholesterol. He was seemingly healthy, active and not overweight.

Anyone else have experience with cholesterol in early 30's?

What pain point is this solving? I can see the usefulness of the photo of the Spire example, but as for traffic / most other real time issues, FB and Twitter work for those.

I know the author emphasizing a point, but the steps that he's described end with two vastly different results:

1 - A php script on a server with a script with some code on it.

vs

2 - A full featured MVC framework, complete with version control, database integration, easy deployment, which is easy for other developer to jump into, etc etc

How can these two options be equated?

Facebook have something somewhat similar to that called Sponsored Stories. Page admins can pick a user post and promote it/turn it into an ad. Doesn't have the cool acronym VAPS though :)

Yeah - the downside would be if someone got access my 1Password, they'd have EVERYTHING...

Also, I always think that it's well and good having a super secure password/password manager, but that's not going to stop me accidentally typing it into a search box, someone looking over my shoulder, accidentally copying and pasting it into and email, or something equally stupid.

1P has some cool features to help prevent some user error (deletes the copy and paste history after a few seconds, auto locks the phone app, etc) but all it takes is some other dumb error on my part to circumnavigate all of their encryption.

The convenience outweighs the risk for me at the moment.

I live "exclusively in Apple's ecosystem", but still find 1Password incredibly useful. You can store credit credit card/passport details (so useful when filling in forms and not having to dig around for them), store software licences, create secure notes, store bank account details and a bunch more things.

So it's more than just a secure password storage/generation program, it's a centralised system for all your important, easy to lose/forget details.

I don't know how much work Apple are going to put into Keychain, but it would have to be a lot for me to switch.

This is clearly an incredibly polarising and sensitive issue - have you seen the (9000+) comments on the blog post? Despite the fact that he specifically says that mothers who work aren't doing anything wrong, that seems to be the first issue that people defend.

We moved here 3 days ago from the UK, so some other random tips (more family oriented than single person)

1) In addition to Craigslist, Livelovely.com seems to be a great amalgamator site for finding houses.

2) Be careful when about booking a place without seeing it (we booked a 1 month Airbnb while we searched for places) There are lots of INSANE hills that are totally impossible with a stroller. Even driving up and down them was daunting.

3) Credit score seems to be important for everything. We had to put an additional $400 down on each phone because we didn't have credit.

4) Saying that - so far every landlord who we've spoken to has been open to some other kind of deal - normally an extra months rent as a deposit, or paying a month or 2 in advance.

Yes, a few people have said that we should check out the East Bay. It makes sense financially, so we'll definitely take a look around. However, I'd love to live in the city if we can. Part of me thinks, we're moving all that way, let's get the full SF experience.

I've heard that having a car isn't common in SF itself and is really expensive. What do you think?
