He worked his arse off for years and had a huge following before this album launched. When The Heist launched he emailed/tweeted/blogged his fans and got enough of a response to hit #1 on iTunes in <24 hrs. I saw him perform about 3 years ago in Bellingham, Washington so this overnight success story involved a lot of hard work to accomplish.

Sure but if they lost the case doesn't that suggest those patents are worthless? If they can't be enforced they aren't effective patents.

Every patent (or group if necessary) is owned by a separate legal entity, so most at risk is the patent(s) involved in the lawsuit.

How would this actually work? Unless a bond has to be posted the troll would just make sure the trolling entity (almost always a separate company shielding liability from true owner) has zero assets to pay the legal bills. Or did I misunderstand something?

The two problems we see with getting all the photos your friends took with you are 1) you have to remember to share and whom you want to share with and 2) its a pain to share them all with just a couple people (and have their photos added as well). We think all that work is what prevents us from getting all the photos our friends took with us.

With shared photo albums on iOS6 it will be really easy to share a set of photos on your phone. It will not remind you to share and it will not consolidate everyone's photos into a single album.

With Flock you just use any camera app as you normally would and when you leave the event Flock gives you a 1-touch page (not automatic, users still have control) of what to share and with whom.

Have you tried Settings -> Notifications -> Treehouse to turn off push notifications? You probably can stay signed in but not receive push notifications.

I partially agree with your caveat. In our case we went to almost zero events, all of our meetings were face-to-face with a single firm. After that we stayed in touch and gave updates on our progress. This also let them get comfortable with our ability to work together and execute on a product. We were also able to show more and more traction over time.

Investors will get tired of you if you are raising money for a long time. Once you decide you are raising, get all your meetings done as quick as possible, hopefully in only a couple of weeks.

It may not need to be a year. We started these discussions in June and started raising in September. They key is just before you need money.

You also want the strongest introduction to a partner that you can get, and I think other entrepreneurs and investors can make stronger introductions than most associates.

It's not just what you suggest, that it makes it harder to get money. The other impact is that you don't have time optimize for best person, you have to optimize for getting cash fast. Also, it is much easier to get to know a person when you aren't asking for money. We had a similar approach as Posterous and are really happy we took the time to get to know VCs before raising money.

Bump does not allow users to share paid apps for free. All we do is share a link to the App Market so your friend can find the app (and hopefully purchase it) easier.

You could very well be correct, I am trying to remember something I heard second hand a couple of years ago. But I emailed my relative who went through all this to find out exactly what happened. And I am pretty sure they have both Hashimoto's and Lupus, it was just that Hashimoto's made it more difficult to detect Lupus.

I am wracking my brain to try to remember these conversations from a couple years ago, but I am pretty sure you can't test for Lupus if you have Hashimoto's (and it's pretty hard to test for Lupus anyways). They just eliminated so many other things that they started treating them for Lupus and it helped enough they decided that is what it was. I will try to get more info from the source soon.

Even on House people have gotten Lupus. "It's never Lupus" is what made it so hard for Dr. House to diagnose. ;)

Have you ruled out Lupus and other autoimmune disorders? A relative of mine has some of the same symptoms and has determined it is an autoimmune disease. One of the few things I know is that they can be very hard to diagnose. I will get their advice and pass it along. They have flown all over the country visiting a myriad of doctors and finally found a good one at the Cleveland Clinic, so at least you are close to good medical care.

Some of us have dropped out of top MBA programs (Dave and I were at UChicago) to participate in YC. And I haven't regretted my decision for a second. Most of my entrepreneurship focused MBA friends would trade in a heartbeat (and some have applied to YC). Although they are definitely selective the top 10 MBA programs take in ~5000 students a year while YC will only take ~200-250/yr at 35 companies per session.

Location services has three sources: cell, scanned wifi, and GPS. Not having GPS does not mean not having location. In many cases we do not get a GPS lock because it can take a loooong time.

We do not log any information that people exchange. The data job is to better understand usage/users and to improve our matching algorithms.

Bluetooth doesn't work very well or reliably between two of the same phone (such as iPhone to iPhone). And lots of people have Bluetooth turned off to save battery (you can't turn it on programmatically, users have to leave your app and goto settings). And it definitely won't work well between any two different phones (such as iPhone to Android).

The official recommended bumping techniques is hold phones, and bump hands. Like a fist bump. That eliminates the risk of damaging your phone and actually works better.

The long-term goal is to bump more than contacts and pictures. For instance you can bump money using the new PayPal app on iPhone.

The bump is really just there to make the connection, you could interact in lots of different ways after the connection. And it may be that iPhone to iPad is more common than iPad to iPad. We are seeing lots of people use Bump to move photos from their iPhone to their iPad.

But Bump works pretty well on iPad. The extra weight makes the bump motion easier to detect.

Our matching algorithms evaluate more than just location to determine if two phones are a possibly match (and highly accurate location is fairly rare). So often we are able to match the correct phones even if there are others in close proximity that are also bumping. In the event that we match >2 phones, we prompt those users to bump again and compare both datasets.

Although you can sometimes trick the algorithm into matching phones that did not physically bump by shaking them from across the room, bumping will not work reliably if you do not bump into each other.
