This post and comments just convinced me to give Alfred a try. I always thought it was just a UI for spotlight.

Zappos launched the API about a year ago and since it's been used for a lot of internal projects, especially our quarterly hackathons. The public API also powers our Ipad/Iphone apps and several 3rd party webapps. We are really excited to see what other devs can do with it.
