This is really annoying. They force the "Optimize Text Per Person" and it is really hard to turn off. If you accept even one "enhancement" they turn OTPP and there isn't a disable button. And then it spews garbage in some of the ads--copy that is full of non-sequiturs and first and second lines that are complete nonesense. They should be held to account.
Why is there no wildlife? I expected this to be about the Maasai Mara/Serengeti wildebeest crossing :)

The other consideration is that the traffic (and submissions) have grown likely 50x plus but the front page still only has 30 slots, and so the 'needle eye' is a lot smaller.
One could argue that a story that makes it to the front page today is much higher quality than one that did so years before.
You get more for 100 points, just like in economic inflation terms, you get more for a consumer electronic that has stayed roughly the same price but quality and features have increased considerably.

It is bad for business. The owners won't allow it. According to the Economist, 43 of the top 50 most valuable sports teams are in North America because of the closed system.
In an 'open' system like European soccer, owners are forced to spend massively on player salaries to avoid relegation.
The fans may have revolted but the advocates of the 'Super league' were looking out for their own interests. There have been many more bankruptcies in European sports due to the inherent nature of that system. See this:
