I'm having the same problem (and had a rant about it on X a few weeks ago [1]).

We get ~50% of traffic from ChatGPT now, unfortunately a large amount of the features it says we have are made up.

I really don't want to get into a state of ChatGPT-Driven-Development as I imagine that will be never ending!

Yes! We got one last year but we didn't use it on the Atlantic crossing as we were trying to do a bit of a digital detox.

Yeah there are a couple of us! We've met one Canadian couple personally who run a SaaS and a few others that freelance and do other online work.

But actually we don't often talk about work with people we meet, it's the sailing challenges that usually connect us!

You can provide email examples as training data

Currently you provide some example emails and the replies you sent to them, and that's used in the prompt.

Working on a fine-tune that uses more of your sent items that you can specify.

Though it can be crazy good without any training at all!

Hey HN! Yesterday I launched Ellie, an extension that helps you reply to emails using OpenAI.

Ellie learns your writing style, and uses the email thread to create context and craft a reply as if it was you.

Currently Ellie is a Chrome extension that only supports Gmail, but I'll be working on supporting more email clients and browsers soon!

Any sort of help message about this when disabling the domain would help :)

The request is never hitting HelpKit's servers.

Sure I understand the bug, but when that service is also a DNS provider then it should understand that when I change the DNS record to $bar then I don't want it to route to $foo any more.

Gitbook is nowhere in the chain

Thanks for the reply! I figured from this thread that it wasn't anything malicious from Gitbook's side and more of a Cloudflare bug, so it's good to hear your explanation!

Edit: Oh also, I did remove the domain from Gitbook so you should really remove it at that point no?

The A records that you've gotten to are unrelated to Gitbook and there are no 302 redirects on our side. As far as I understand it's some internal redirect happening in Cloudflare's network.

Try doing a curl on the domain that's returned by the CNAME and comparing it to a curl on the original URL. I agree it makes no sense so I don't blame you for assuming it's nonsense.

There's a redirect happening somewhere but it ain't from the web server listed on the DNS record.

In my case I don't have the orange cloud on! But yes it must be an internal routing issue.

Yes. DNS shows it should be redirecting to leavemealone.helpkit.so but it actually redirects to dinkydani.gitbook.io

I think that you're right, it's related to Cloudflare's SaaS SSL product [1].

I'm totally ignorant of how it works but I guess that because everything is taking place within Cloudflare's network they're not hitting the DNS record after it's initially set up, they're just routing the traffic internally.

Yes, I agree the problem is how they're routing internally and ignoring the DNS change.

You can see this yourself by running a "dig" against help.leavemealone.app, the DNS resolution and where the domain actually routes to is different.

I experienced this today when migrating away from GitBook and I thought I was going crazy.

I had changed the CNAME pointing to GitBook to my new service, and dig etc was reporting that it had propagated correctly. BUT the URL was still resolving to GitBook.

I was pulling my hair out and questioning my entire understanding of how DNS works.

From what I can tell Cloudflare "partners" can introduce redirect rules that are prioritized over our own Cloudflare DNS rules. This sounds completely insane to me, there's no way SaaS providers should be able to hijack control of DNS like this.

Sorry to say that I had to give up on reading this because the scrolling animations were so distracting.

Fairphone 3+ is great

I changed my phone to a Fairphone 3+ running LineageOS. I'm liking it so far. I think it's as ethical & private as I can get while still have a smartphone right now.

I also changed my photos to backup to Nextcloud, which I'm self-hosting.

Thanks for letting me know, I'll keep an eye on it. Though tbh the Droplet is so low powered I'll be surprised if it has zero issues with slow-down over time.

Actually no it's not, most read-trackers use invisible images in the email body. When you open the email the images all load from their remote server, and thus they know you opened the email, and when.

You can work against this by disabling images, or you can add a tracker list I made to your adblocker!

Yes! You can look at the original source of the email.

Open the email in Gmail, click the three-dot menu in the top right, click "show original". A new tab will open with the raw email including all the headers.
