The whole "quantified self" movement might be more about OCD and perfectionism than anything else.

As someone who has dealt with OCD and perfectionism, I think that could be the case for a lot of people. And the urge to obsessively track everything can be debilitating.

You might be classifying medical advice differently, but this hasn't been my experience at all. I've discussed my insomnia on multiple occasions, and gotten back very specific multi-week protocols of things to try, including supplements. I also ask about different prescribed medications, their interactions, and pros and cons. (To have some knowledge before I speak with my doctor.)

I wonder if it's trying to predict what kind of estimate a human engineer would provide.

Exactly right. And you might waste years of your life trying to "fix" social anxiety by attempting to change your mindset or trying to adopt new social practices. (Speaking from experience.)

It's not his focus on health that causes so much concern, it's his long anti-science history.

ChatGPT has at least been trained on a variety of textual musical notations. It will generate chord charts or drum patterns. In the past I've asked it to generate chord progressions demonstrating various music theory concepts.

I always say that as a developer, I'll be one of the first to die come the apocalypse. I'll be the useless guy with nothing to trade and no survival skills.

My grandpa lived through the depression. As a kid, I noticed he would meticulously clean every scrap of food off his plate. My mom explained what they'd lived through and how he couldn't bring himself to waste anything.

I'm recently diagnosed, and I'm this way with auditory and visual input. If I go to a crowded sports bar with TVs, I'm basically useless.

I'm recently diagnosed and I experience the same. Listening to someone in a crowded room takes a ton of effort because my brain wants to track all of the other conversations and noises.

I show lots of interest in what my kids are interested in. They like to share video gaming progress, funny memes etc. It gives us an open pathway to communicating about other things going on in their lives.

Scratch is fun, and has the community element that kids expect and love these days. My sons have both enjoyed learning to program with it and explore what other kids have made.

Agreed. Your personal process is incredibly important, and lists or more advanced productivity tools are there to support that process.

Years ago I put into practice David Allen's Getting Things Done methodology. While I've significantly customized my own process since then, I still use techniques like immediate capture. When a todo / idea / concern comes up, I quickly capture it in a holding area and get back to what I was doing. Then I intentionally revisit that list at regular intervals to pick off items with my full attention.

Many developers try to keep track of everything in their head. That won't work as a PM.

Your time will usually be much more fractured than it was a dev, as you track multiple ongoing projects at various levels of detail. If you try to keep everything in your head, you will most likely start dropping balls, and if there's anyone who shouldn't drop balls, it's a PM.

So, my advice: make lists and track the status of everything you can.

We follow this model. I like thinking of "develop" as an integration branch, and "master" as an always-deployable gold master. And yep, develop -> master merges are always fast-forward merges.

I wouldn't call DataScript a clone of Datomic. I'd call it a very useful slice of Datomic's functionality, available on the client side. Cloning Datomic as a whole would be a very large task.
