Some workplace code base are legally not supposed to be shared.

More importantly, they train on not only code but also your interactions with the model, no matter how little you value your labor, there are values in it.

This is the reason I think. These black markets not only pool and resell subs, but also store data and sell to whoever is training.

Encryption is useful to at least stop the latter.

Ultimately same purpose as a\ ‘s trick exposed earlier, but a much nicer implementation.

Jack Dorsey resigned from Bluesky years ago, but smart people still smell his ghost and shake their head.

If Bluesky close door now and all did:plc get magically migrate to did web, Ill probably all in on atproto.

Besides the founder, the only real external investor for DeepSeek is Chinese govt. there are literally zero revenue pressure compare to O, A & G.

To compete in that direction, USG needs to learn from CCP to "seize the means of production", which they are sort of doing, but in such an incompetent way that I'm afraid we will probably end up mixing the worst of both communism and capitalism.

this is ridiculous.

there are tons of US providers supports Chinese models. Chinese labs give them weights, they don't give back user info in return.

ATP is more decentralized than X at least. Decentralized as a term is almost as loaded as Democratic. :)

Anyway I think we can agree on enshitification is coming soon. I'm just looking for signs of that's actually happening (or a counter theory that it would not happen)

It seems most ppl who dislike X has already settled, a small amount moved to DeSo like atp or ap, most just stayed or went offline. Unless China GFW magically collapsed, there seems no reason ATProto user base will continue to grow. So, when will the monetization/enshitification phase begin?

I'm asking this not bc I like enshitification, but the app view design seems such a perfect fit for user data mining/targeting, that it's hard to believe it was not part of design consideration in day one.

Migrated from Reeder to NNW, can’t be happier. Solid work and open source. Really appreciate!

From Axios report:

But calls from Amazon — as well as at least five other companies to a variety of senior administration officials Thursday evening and Friday morning — led to the model being shut down by Friday night.

So apparently Ant made many enemies. Amazon is an investor but a company at this size may have many tribes too.

For US citizens: counting on Open Source AI is another libertarian fantasy.

Open source AI should and will get better for sure (including better defined first), but the state will have the power over AI never the less.

If you don't like govt's AI policy or the people making those policies, go fix that, don't act like you can avoid them.

For Chinese: saying "Open source AI must win" sounds like singing "L'Internationale, sera le genre humain". The reality is Open Source AI will be over the moment US competitive pressure gone.

For rest of world: there's no real AI for you so far, go work on it or be a citizen of US&A or China.
